are arsenal really "that" good?

In other words, only three of the United team would walk into our first eleven.

My opinion only one being Henry would get a go in the man uts first elven the rest would be nice and happy warming out bench.

i think in a fully fit man utd squad, the following players would get into the utd side:

vierra (maybe replace scholes, scholes coming on as a sub)
henry (as RvN's strike partner)
campbell (he will replace any of the center backs that man u have)
pirez (in premiership games he would play, in EU, giggs = irreplaceable)

this is from a man utd supporter's perspective, without any bias against arsenal (if this is possible).

as far as beckham is concerned im now wondering maybe it wouldnt be a good idea if he got sold. cuz he no longer supplies the crosses as he did in the treble winning season; he wonders to the middle too much. in the treble winning season, once he got the ball (on the right), he would run forward, as fast as he could and without looking up, would whip the ball right in front of the goal mouth. yorke scored many many goals that year using this method. i cant remember the last time he did this (i think it was 2 yrs ago).

for this and next year i would rather man utd not buy any player costing more than £8m, as the so called star players are not really performing as advertised (with the exception of RvN, who i believe is the best finisher ive ever seen, ever....).

if u look at the results of man utd against liverpool, newcastle, arsenal. i believe that the squad that beat these teams was probably the cheapest that man utd have put out in the last 2 yrs.

i would sell beckham and rebuild the squad

buy somone like van rommedahl to replace becks then spend the rest on not necessarily first team players but those with the potential to be

or how about buying another striker, and replacing becks with solkjaer?

i thought of that but we would still need some compete=ition for solskjaer

i think we should buy the likes of Robert Earnshaw as a potential striker for the future and the likes of david prutton as they are both young and could probably be had for under 3million each. these would be good buys to improve the squad and potential world beaters 3-4 years down the line.

i think the problem that man utd find themseleves in right now is that they find themselves having to buy players who have already "made it", so that the player can immediately be good enough to get into the first team. now if u buy someone "for the future" this means that they are not of the standard reqd to make the first team. now, how will they improve if they dont get first team football? they can only improve by training and playing well in the reserves. however, to make bigger strides, u simply have to play against the top players in the league and unfortunately the way AF does things now, he wont give these youngsters a chance. knowing this, if u were 21 yrs old, would u sign for man utd, on the off chance that u might get 1 game for man utd, and IF u impress in that 1 game, u might get another and another. most 20 year olds would be put off and would probably rather play in a lesser team, for their own personal development, and perhaps make a move to a larger club (perhaps even man utd) once they are good enough to go straight into the first team.

and this leads man utd back to the same problem that they simply have to buy players whose cost will break the british transfer record.

a way around this would be to get some really good scouts and they will find players who are comparitiviely unknown/cheap but are good enough to get into the first team.

Maybe if they took a leaf out of Bobby Robson's book they'd not be hated so much...

or whinge, whinge, whinge...

When was that exactly? Fergie has always been one for buying big names for a lot of cash.

er no he hasnt its only been in the last 2-3years when he has done that

Soslkjaer
Johnsen
Keane
Schmiechel
Cantona
Kanchelskis
Ince

All bought for very little

then we have

giggs
beckham
p neville
g neville
brown
O shea
Butt
Fortune
chadwick
Scholes

all brought throught the youth system which Arsenal are beginning to bear fruits from

All done before Wenger started at arsenal hence Wenger taking a leaf out of Fergies book.

Barthez - Seaman

Difficult one to call. Barthez can be brilliant but can be terrible. Too erratic to play for Manyoo IMO. Seaman is past it now. If he was 5 years younger he'd walk this one though.

Silvestri - Cole

Also hard to call, Cole is better going forward, Silvestri can actually defend.

Ferdinand - Campbell

When Ferdi was at Leeds he was the best centre-half in the country, easily. Now, who knows? He can't finish a game :D Campbell never impresses me but at least he's a steady player.

Cygan - Brown

Hard to call. Think I'll leave this one. They're just as bad as each other.

Lauren - Neville

My hatred of the Nevilles runs deep, and Lauren chips in with goals and assists. Neither can defend. Neither very good.

Giggs - Pires

last season it was Pires, and Pires is more consistent. Both matchwinners though.

Keane - Vieira

I like Vieira, even though he's a gimp, I don't like Keane. I'd rather play against Keane too, he's too slow and too old now in comparison to Vieira.

2nd midfielder - 2nd midfielder

Here we have Gilberto (not bad), Veron (world class but can't play in the prem), Scholes (terrible this season), Butt (terrible all his life), Van Bronckhorst (never rated him). Too hard to call.

Ljungberg - Beckham

Beckham has more experience, Ljungberg has more skill, Beckham the better deadball player/crosser, Ljungberg the better goalscorer. I'd go for Ljungberg here.

Solskjaer - Henry

Henry blows Solskjaer away on this one. No probs.

Bergkamp - Nistelrooy

Nistelrooy wins this one

Thats my take on it. I think I'd have to end up with:

Barthez

Cole
Campbell
Ferdinand
Lauren

Giggs
Vieira
Keane
Ljungberg

Henry
Nistelrooy

All those were bought years ago, relatively cheap to todays prices but hardly bargain stuff back then. If he was so good at it whats gone wrong?

He's gone a bit mad in his old age and started spending absolute fortunes on first team players rather than buying cheap and bringing them on often trying for quick fixes. But nothing really has gone wrong as proven by the last 3 results especially the

2-0 at arsenal. The question that may well have to be asked in the next couple of weeks when we climb to the summit of the premiership once more and arsenal drop down.
