Looking to get a set that will last.

Have seen some Bosch ones for £30 for a 100 piece set with titanium tips.

Its either those or the McCalister ones.

A drills a drill (unless its one of the sets you get from poundsaver, or the 30 piece wood/HSS sets for £2.99 down the market) First time you use them on any sort of material harder than plastic, they will be flattened.

You can bet most decent bits will only last about 50 uses max on any reasonably hard metal - 200 uses Concrete/brick/masonary , and maybe 1000 uses in wood (if its softwood)

If I were buying a set - I would go for something around that price. And yes, Bosch are great drills at a price I would expect to pay for them. We use them in work and they are great for the money. Anyone that spends more than that on drills is a mug. But, then again, I wouldn't buy a set (as there's too many in it you will never use) ;)

Just buy a couple of very small bits (for starting holes), 5 or 6 medium size bits (depending on the plugs you have) and a couple of large bits. Unless of course, you need all the sizes.

Just make sure you get two of the 6,8 and 10mm if they are HSS. And god forbid you use it for something it's not designed for it will just wreck it in seconds and create stress on your drill and loads of smoke (try using a HSS bit on wood ;)) Cause thats the ones that will go first.....

I bet most people with 100 piece drill bit sets in the UK have only ever used 5 or 6 drills in the whole set and out of those the most used one's are long gone, either lost, blunted or broken and replaced with non-set ones anyway. Don't buy a set, buy the one's you'll need and if you find you've not got one the right size, just use a smaller one and waggle it around a bit like the Pro's ;)

I think will take the advice and pickup a few very good drill bits in the common sizes than get a set.

Just picked up a £170 Makita 18v drill for £94.99.

First deecent drill ive ever owned... cant wait to start taking the house apart.

If drilling metal, buy some by Guhring - they're really very good. They're made from high speed steel and should last ages if treated well.

The main reason for drills dulling is too high a spindle speed/too much heat at the tip of the drill. Bosch are pretty good for their masonry bits, but their equivalent probably nowhere near as good as Guhring Jobber drills for metals/plastics.

I have a huge cheap set. My neighbour needed a random allen key the other day to undo part of the brake assembly on his car. My set came to the rescue!
