Are cable extensions needed in a Silverstone Fortress?

I'm going to be doing a build using the Silverstone Fortress and i've read a few posts expressing problems getting certain motherboard power leads to reach.

Do I need to buy any cable extensions using this case? I'll be buying the BeQuiet 850W if that is of any help to those in the know

I have a Fortress with a Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850w and mine reached, think it might be quite close if I remember rightly.

Thanks for the reply Mr x.

Did you go under the motherboard tray, to hide the wire, or was it close, even, going over the top of the motherboard? (Hope that makes sense and i'm guessing we're talking about the 4 pin 12v connector?...)

In mine, using a Corsair PSU, going behind the motherboard was tight, but it did fit without an extension, just needed careful running of the cables behind the tray. Running over the motherboard it would reach without any issue, but obviously wouldn't look as tidy.

This is using a P5B Plus mobo.

I would build 1st then you can always get 1 later if you need it. You won't have a problem going over the top temporally if you have to.

Mine just arrived. What a case. Sooo glad I cancelled my 900-2 and got this instead :)

Will do pics once built, just got to wait on the bits to go inside it!

I have the same case and PSU as the OP and they fit just fine - see the first post on this link for pics. And welcome to the Fortress owners club! :)

Thanks for the reply FacePlantSi.

You have a very entertaining pieice of kit there - 3 SSD's in RAID 0!!!

Kudos.

EDIT: You may find this guy's build of interest in that he's attached his SSD's to the underside of the motherboard tray with velcro to increase his airflow - link. The prices of SSD's i would be wrapping mine up in bubble wrap...

Cheers for that link Plec - hadn't seen that yet, that's quite an interesting setup too! Don't think that the SSD's would fit behind the mobo in mine though, at least not with all the cabling to be hidden away too!

My array of SSD's really came about by mistake as I originally only had 2 of them but within a week decided that they were just sooo good that I wanted all my Apps etc on them and so needed more space - it was easier to get another than to sell the existing ones and get a single large one! And I think I'm gonna stick with them for the time being.... with Win7 they are blisteringly fast!

From your pics and sig configuration it's a well thought out rig - RAID 0 with RAID 1 seems the fastest and safest solutuion for that setup - i'm very envious.

I may look into SSD's myself next year as they seem to be living up to their hype - plus the novelty of opening WORD in under 2 seconds would never wear off... ;)

Cheers for that m8! I think I've got the best of both worlds with my drive setup, as you say - speed and safety. It wasn't cheap but I stand by my words that SSD's are the single best upgrade you can make for overall perfomance gains. And I see no reason at all why people shouldn't run them in RAID - I know there are others who would vilify me for that but what the hell - if you afford it and want the absolute best they why not!:D

When you get one (or some...!) you will absolutely love it and will wonder why you waited! (and yeah, it's a pleasure every day getting home from work to a system that flies!)

Now, off to enjoy the sun...:)
