Are cheap vices any good?

I'm in the process of making a stainless steel trigger for one of my airguns and finding it hard without a vice to hold it steady. Ideally i dont want to spend a fortune, but if the cheap ones are useless then i'll have to. I'd love to get a proper old Record one, but they are always collection only due to the weight.

Get one with a swivel base, they are so much More versatile. Also you can pick up some thing like this:

A bit bigger at 5". A reasonable price too.

came into post exactly that, get a swivel one.
also one with soft jaw swappable/covers is very useful. but you can just wrap over a bit of old leather/foam etc.

Cheers guys. I might just get the one I posted in the OP as that is a swivel base. They all look pretty much identical, like one company makes them in China and they just get re-branded.
