Are custom made cables safe to use for modular PSUs?

The PSU cables which came with my HX1000 are very stiff and I was looking into custom ones made by Moddiy and Cablemod. I am particularly interested in the 12 pin cable for my rtx 3080 as well. Is there an element of risk when using these cables with my psu?

Power cables are simple things. As long as they use wire of suitable cross section, the correct connectors, and crimp them properly, then there's no reason they wouldn't work fine.

I've had my RM850 for about 7 years now covering 3 systems and added CableMod cables about 6 years ago. Not had a problem and they are so much easier to work with than the Corsair cables.

agreed, I got some a while back for my last build, alternating yellow and black braiding, no problems at all, just be sure when specifying the length, that sometimes, depending on the gauge of wire, they can take up more length in the curves, and measured distances i think usually go from/to the tip of the plugs, i came close on mine to them being too short.

Waste of money IMHO :D If your current cables are working fine why replace them. Especially since making extra cables creates extra pollution in a place like China or Vietnam.

Funny, I can see where you're coming from, and in ATX/EATX builds i've always had the same opinion, until I had PC Power and Cooling do custom cabling on a PSU with non-modular cabling, thus allowing me to build a loom that would route as i wanted around the case, with the various connectors splitting off where I needed them, since then, and with doing smaller builds in mainly MATX, when I came to doing one for myself, I opted for the custom cable route simply for looks and simplicity and not having unwanted things tucked away all over the place. That said, using individually braided cables results in them taking up more space and being less user-friendly, so it's half a dozen of one 6 of another!
