Hey,

I'm gonna be getting a laptop in a couple of weeks, I'm thinking of getting a Dell Inspiron 1520 with these specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz
15.4" screen
2GB memory
250GB hard drive
Geforce Go 8600M GT

Total £734

I'd just like to hear your opinions on Dells and whether that's a good deal, like are they reliable? Thanks!

Had my Vostro 1500 for a few weeks now and it's been absolutely perfect. Can't fault it in the slightest.

Amazingly fast, reliability hasn't been an issue. Great battery life. And did I mention it was quick?!

Great stuff, they're doing a £160 discount on that laptop atm so it seems like a perfect time to get it (previously the discounts have been max £80!). Oh, and one more question, would you recommend getting Truelife (says it gives crisper image but shinier surface)?

Some people like Truelife, some don't. Personally I love it, the screen on this Vostro is absolutely brilliant.

Perfectly sharp image. The only problem is that when you've got your back to a light source, you do get more reflection in the screen that with a non-Truelife display.

As I said, I would go for it. I think the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. But, of course, it's your choice!

Just another question regarding Dell laptop's.

Do they feel quality? Do they feel cheap?

Ive been looking around the shop's at possible laptop's, the new HP's have caught my eye with the build quality and screen. How are Dell's compared to them?

Basically, Ive been looking at a laptop for general use, has to be quick, and preferably with a decent amount of HD space. GPU is'nt an issue nor is a huge screen. To me build quality has to be great on it though, thats where Im not sure about the Dell machines.

I have a Dell Ispiron 9400 , had problems with video card , now working fine

Phoned Dell and they replace with 1720 foc , but they did not collect my Dell 9400 :) BIG GRIN

I would buy from Dell again great customer service ha ha ha

I have a latitude D420, it's not a bad machine. I'd say the business orientated latitude range has noticeably better build quality than the consumer machines but HP is better across in terms of build quality. I'm probably going to hand my dell on to someone at work and get a HP 2510p

I certainly do like the look of the HP's. Not sure about models, as Ive not really looked into them properly.

Dell's seem to be a little hit and miss. There are many cases that they are perfect for some people and just a nightmare for others.

Ok, I'm pretty much sorted now, only thing I'm not sure about is the colour! Black seems very boring, I'm thinking of going with Green (see here). What do you think? It's pretty bright but I think it looks cool :D

R U a man or a mouse ? [please spare the alternative rodent]

if you like it and its your money who cares what anyone else thinks, at least you wont be a sheep :)

I've got a dell vostro and had sum issues with it. Dell sent someone round to replace the memory and gfx card, and since then it's been fine. I can't really fault their customer service, they use to ring me everytime I never had to ring them once :)
