The reason I asked, is cos I bought a cheap sony micro hifi a few weeks ago, and I've been listerning to it with the speakers it came with for a few weeks with my 60watt sub.. Anyway I thought I'd test it with my 6yr old 50watt speakers and the sound qual is so much sharper and clear then the speakers it came with. and when you crank up the sound, loads of air comes out of the front ports. Heres a pic of the denon speakers, sub and quite naff hifi, but it does the job :p

I would have thought the sound would be better if the tweaters were at the top? and you would have thought they would be protected, cos you only have to touch them to dent them.

Basically guys are these speakers good? I think they are, but they are the only bookshelf speakers Ive bought, they were abour £100 when I bought them 6yrs ago or longer then that even.

they are ok .. early models were produced by mission, look on the back, use to have mission sticker... upgrade to entry level mission speakers was always an improvment

Not that close together they won't. Zero stereo seperation.

Ive gone from 1 extreame to another, Ive put them back onto the speaker stands that are about 5 or 6 meters apart and about 0.5meters from the ceeling. lol

When I fixed the stands to the wall about 6 or 7 yrs ago I knew very little about getting good sound quality, so I had them as high as possible.. But now I know you need them at ear level so you get all the quality from the speakers.

The reason I got them down was to give them a clean up. The first time since ive had them and that Ive given them a clean up, and its been about a year since ive used them. Cos you couldnt change the bass and treble on my hifi, it just had those stupid pre set levels.

After going back to the hifi from using logitech z680 speakers, the sound quality was very very poor. So now I have a hifi with a treble and a bass, I can get it sounding much better, so the speakers does the highs, meds and the sub doing the lows, Much better sound now, and plus I tilted the speakers down abit.

Why do they still make hifi's with those dam preset sound levels?, I use to like them, but now I know how your ment to set up the sound, Those preset levels are dreadful, cos you cannot get it sounding how its ment to sound

Yeah, I agree, they're OK. I have the early Mission ones too. I still have them boxed up but I replaced them with Kef Q15s as I needed magnetic shielding.

Shame the amp they came with didn't last quite so well. :/
