Hey all,

A bit of an unusual question this, but are DNA tests available to the public? Or are they just limited to the Police/Research Institutes?

I just wonderred if you could, for instance, send off a pair of blood/dead cell samples to a laboratory for a fee (quite hefty I'd imagine), and then after a period of time they'd get back to you with basic information, like how related you are.

Does any thing like this happen in real life? I think I heard you can get tests for some genetic diseases this way, but whether that is 'prescription' only or free for all I don't know.

Your thoughts :).

yes u can get a DNA test to compair son/father DNA. i went for one on friday and i will get the results 2moro. My ex g/f said her kid was mine so i find out 2moro if the kid is mine or not.

But, it depends on the reason for your test. if u have a good one then u can get it done no prob. If its just for something silly then they will tell u to go ****

There are several services available that do dna tests to determine your true racial origins etc. but I don't know about forensic type tests.

Yes, you can have DNA tested to show levels of relationship up to about first cousins (I'll resist any obvious jokes about Norfolk...). Please note that the consent of BOTH parties is required, and both parties will be required to prove their identities before the samples are taken.
