Are EVGA taking the mick

Go for it, it might say classified on the box but theres now no telling what kind of chip you'll get under the hood, could be why the base clock is so low...

Hmm. Argh. You've put me in a sitch. If I canceled I could sort my loop and caselab build too.

The final straw for me was the announcement of Maxwell come the end of March. It probably won't be the full fat Maxwell but the writing is on the wall.

Just cancelled

And have ordered a 4930k for my 290X build instead

It will be interesting to see what runs best in that rig the 4930k or my 3970X

Sounds vise :)

I was also planning for Kingpin - but now that they're only 3GB's and not 6GB I'm not interested.

Instead I'm looking at those sweet Gigabyte GTX 780Ti GHz Edition cards :p perhaps after christmas.

I have been thinking the same as Kaapstad & MjFrosty I don’t know what to do... I had the money saved for a Titan then the 780Ti hit and I was like wow! This is my 1st ever EVGA card, so I ordered a Classified “as this is their top of the line premium card - or at least it was”

A week after my pre-order BAM the Kingpin was announced…

TBH I'm a bit a bit peeved off @ EVGA as the Classy is shipping in America but has been pushed back by 3weeks in the UK! Realistically I’m not expecting a delivery over Xmas or the New Year! In all likelihood I think it will be January before these card hit. :(

With this Kingpin edition it’s obvious that this card will be getting the best “cherry picked silicon” and this is born out with the newly released Classy specs: 14mhz over a SC card is not that impressive! When other AIB-variants are coming out with higher core clocks.

I don’t know what to do… cancel & wait for the Kingpin or just stick with the Classy’s maybe I should wait for the reviews to hit and compare the overclocks between the “Classified vs. Superclocked” after all we are paying a hefty premium for the Classy.

AS for Maxwell in March: I have always been what’s known as an “early adopter” I got caught out with the whole 680-GK104 not being the chip it was meant to be! Now here we are 20+months on and we are now getting the full potential of the GK110. I think NV will do the same again with Maxwell so I really want to buy the best possible 780 Ti and hold off on Maxwell until it matures… and again buy when it’s at its full potential.

Sorry for the long winded rant... I’m new to these forums and I do read the topics & post intently I do value the opinions of other posters and take onboard their views & opinions – it’s a good community here. :)

You're allowed to rant :D. It's not on and it insults the intelligence of EVGA customers. We know that these chips will be picked out of what could have potentially been Classified cards, and that is only a bad thing.

I'm sure we are not the only people contemplating cancelling. I think this is a blatent advantage take of the fact the Ti really does overclock well, meaning the Classifieds will still be marginally better than reference models but not as good as the Kingpin chips.

This is most likely the reason we're left waiting across the pond too as there is possibly a shortage of higher binned chips. Poor show EVGA, and I don't think you'll find many enthusiasts looking to spend out over $800 / £1,000 on a GPU with 3GB VRAM at this stage, as it won't withstand 2014 and is a fairly large investment.

I'd actually rather have a Titan.

Pricing up my new caselabs build instead as I'm thinking it will be money better spent than on a set of cards that fell short of Kingpins expectations.

Yeah, I don't game at 1080p. It was more a dig at the price taking the VRAM into account though, so need to get on the defensive. I have 3GB cards too you know? :D

And honestly I think you'll be surprised. I'm just a notch above at 1440P and already close to the limit in some games. Next generation consoles are going to push these limits, and come next year I think you'll be changing your tune rather quickly.

I can understand your concerns Kaap but I would have stuck with it. The classys have always been good and I fell the Kingpin Editions.... Nah, who am I kidding. It will be the Kingpin Edition now or a cheaper one.

A tad naughty of EVGA IMO and hopefully Dominik will pop in to confirm that the Classy will get the better chip like always.

Glad to see you went with that.

The delay was quite obviously while they rob the classys of the good chips for the Kingpin.

Certainly looks that way :(

A wise plan. I feel evga have somewhat devalued the classified with the arrival of the kingpin card.

Probably a wiser option :)
