Are forums slowly dying out?

So, it goes against this thread, look at the coding base, garbage yet so popular?

How does it go against the thread? No one said forums are getting less popular due to poor coding.

I've seen a few forums that have absolutely shocking software/coding but are still used.

As an aside I don't think the plentyoffish forums are that popular relative to their user base.

I hope forums are not dieing out in favour of social networking.

You can't really discuss things with a huge group of like minded people with social networking, just a select few friends.

I have a few friends into computing, tech and games but most are not that interested. Forums are a great place to discuss things with other that (normally) know what they are talking about. Also great source of help and info when having any kind of problems.

I'm not really a fan of social networking as it is at the moment. For discussion I prefer forums, newsgroups (now that's something that's dying out) and IRC, for keeping up with news I use RSS feeds. I have both Facebook and Twitter accounts but rarely use them.

Yes..
A few forums I used to use regularly have now been abandoned almost completely.
These were mostly games forums, specific to that game or oriented around certain parts of it e.g creating bots and macros for it. The new-wave of users just doesn't seem to be interested in doing such things, so this forum has died. Along with its set of programs developed to help.
Other forums like a few Wow ones have now stopped and the users can mostly be found on larger boards.
Meh, life goes on.

They are dying out, but for every popular forum that dies out, 2 even more popular forums will be born! It's just evolution and like said earlier, the cliqued ones are the most vulnerable.

Maybe you're miserable and have added 50% of the people that regularly post to ignore lists? :p
