Afternoon all,

It seems like these days gameplay edits (usually Twitch stream highlights) and shorts are all the rage. I don't see a lot of cinematic frag movies around any more. Have you noticed the same thing? Have you seen a good one recently? Do you miss them? Pancake???

The problem with frag movies is that it peaked early with Frag Or Die, it was always going to be downhill from there.

I'm guessing that's your favourite because you were part of the cs scene. I just had a watch and I certainly don't think it was above a lot of frag movies since. It probably doesn't help that I wasn't gaming back then and I've never really seen the appeal of cs.

Q3 had some great frag movies. I remember a jump one blowing my mind back in the day.

I used to love a good cod:uo frag movies as well - being my favourite game.

I think you've kind of answered your own question, we now have streaming platforms with clips etc. Ain't nobody got time to sit through a 10min+ video these days, it's all about TikTok style short content.
Back in the day, if you wanted to publish video you kind of had no option but to produce it yourself, so people put cinematic stuff together. There was no Twitch, heck no YouTube back then, people weren't streaming video so you'd have to create video from demo playback, and if you are going to do that, you might as well try high production values. Nowadays it's like a 5min job to clip something from a stream instead of a 5 month job to create a long video.

I miss these videos. I used to watch a lot of the ET and CS1.6 ones, mainly SK and 4Kings.

I do think that due to streaming and being "in the moment - be there or miss out" that these videos are a dying breed which is a shame. Long form content, steaming aside, seems to be taking a back seat to short form. TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instragram.....

All the rage back in the day. Bombsight is still one of my favourite frag films ever, even if it's quality and production value were terrible compared to what eventually appeared. CS:S was probably the peak of high production value frag films. I think it was The Vault (maybe?) that hosted tons of films from loads of different games that people submitted. Sadly seems to be a product of it's time, as mentioned above its all short snippits, drop-in drop-out on-demand content that is flavour of the generation now.

Back in 2016 I made my own Frag movie when I played Rainbow Six Siege a lot . . . I don't know if anyone's interested but thought I'd share it all the same, I don't think I breach any rules by doing this . . . *crosses fingers*

That's more of a gameplay edit (I think I might have made up that name, but hopefully people know what I mean - basically highlights with no music or effects) though, which as I mentioned seems to have largely replaced the traditional cinematic frag movie. Nice plays though :)

I made a few BC2 frag movies back when I was playing that. Just recently I did a MW gameplay edit, and also a couple of shorts. The shorts definitely get MUCH higher views (both via YT shorts and TikTok).

Ah sorry dude, my bad. I'd like to see your gameplay edits tho, if you have them on youtube or somewhere.

I watch the old CS:Source frag movies for a hit of nostalgia of when I was actually really good at FPS games... They do seem to be a dying art though, good ones that aren't a showcase of "look what cool effects I found" is hard

Well, I hardly even see any with cool effects these days... I don't mind effects as long as they fit in with the mood of the movie and the gameplay is good. The Quake one I posted above is just about perfect for me - the custom map textures that they used look great IMO.

You'll like my mini frag movies when I wrecked (lol ;)) those guys then (they were under alias bar one which you'll recognise) :D

My best ace evvaarr!1

Ahh those were the days. Loved Frag or Die. It was all downhill from 1.6 :p
