Are games shown too much before release?

I feel like I've seen everything of a game before its even released. I remember IGN showing every single boss fight for Dead Rising weeks before its release.

Why is this? Whats the point in trying to spoil the game for people by showing too much footage? Back in the day, all we got was a 30 second clip on a demo disc that came free with a magazine.

I agree. I was just thinking that they show way to much of a game before a games release, as i was reading the Dead Space thread. Its a very good way of ruining the mystery of a survival horror game :(

I like reading about interesting game mechanics, though I don't want the article peppered with spoilers

Yes, I think they are - Halo 3 and Gears 2 are great examples of this. After watching all these vi-docs there isnt much left that I don't know about the game before it comes out :p

I tend to just look at reviews once a game has been released to see if it's worth a purchase. I do not like to ruin a game by watching lots of footage before hand. I apply much the same rule to movies too and never watch trailers as these tend to include spoilers and can ruin the films attraction. I much prefer to experience things first hand rather than watching someone else's exploits ingame.:)

The point was, games are shown way too much before release, not how to stay away from watching them. I've pretty much avoided every Dead Space video that has been released.

A lot of people want the info, those who don't can easily ignore it so where's the problem?
