Are HDD Coolers just a gimmick?

The reason I ask is that I have 2 HDD's and have glued an 80mm underneath each of them.

It has dropped the temps of the HDD's by roughly 8c-10c under heavy loading i.e gaming, photo work.

Is it really worth getting them? Would I see any real world difference compared to what I have already done?

They aren't as important nowadays and most cases have a lot of airflow and they tend to run cooler than they used too.

Yup pretty pointless seeing as its about 10-15W over an area of 30ish sq inches...

One 120mm fan over them, job done

Remember HDs can go up to 50C and frankly you'd have to have one rubbish airflow system to hit that, even my raptor doesn't go above 35C when de-fragging with no airlflow!
