I know that they were illegal over here for a while.

I could be imagining this, but I swear that every itrip I've heard that has either been in America or has been brought into the UK by one of my American friends has sounded much better than the UK supplied ones.

Are the UK ones required to transmit at a lower power?

Cheers,

Sam

Some of them are still illegal, the "approved" ones are CE marked. Use of a non approved transmitter is still illegal.

Problem with itrip, and any other FM minitransmitter, is in the UK, the FM band is packed. The BBC channels are broadcast with massive power transmitters, there's local radio, and in major city's any "spare" channels are normally hosting pirate radio stations.

So getting good quality sound from a tiny transmitter can be quite tricky.

It wouldnt surprise me if the CE marked devices have lower output power, as personal transmittors are illegal if they interfere with another persons ability to listen to radio.
