Are January sales better than Black Friday/Cyber Monday?

I haven't bought anything this black friday/cyber monday, but I was wondering if it's worthwhile waiting out until January to buy some computer parts/accessories?

Is it generally cheaper in January compared to the current sales we have atm?

How is black friday a con? They are just sales with discounted prices. I got a Sony 42" W7 tv for £400 with a 5 year warranty, has been around the £460-£480 before that.

I'd say BF and the jan sales are just the same really. Jan sales are often used to shift stock, so if you get there late all the decent deals have sold out.

all sales are to shift stock that they are stuck with, retailers don't lower the price out of the kindness of their hearts.

Only old stock are cheaper, Black Friday etc are often a con.

A fool and his money.....

Like all bargains, you just need to find the diamond out of the coals.

If you find it, it's a big saving like me and my telly, online and delivered, so no stall frenzy.

I personally find BF to be better if you want decent deals on stuff you intend to buy for Christmas - rather than paying the full price or hunt of missed deals for gifts.

Jan Sales is great for stuff I didn't know I need or want and have some spare cash to spend. I usually spend more on new work shirts and trousers than random bargains.

Black friday et al. are just a clever bit of marketing that the yanks did to bring people into their stores, not selling things at much of a discount, (i.e. just a lower profit margin) in the hope that having people in their shops and seeing other "bargains" and spend more money in store.

Sales are generally used to get rid of old stock, or when next season items (be it clothes or tech) come in.

If you want bargains, hunt around the internet, or ebay or haggle in the shop any time of the year and you're more likely to actually get a real steal.

Is it even worth it, for anything worth having it's often not much cheaper.

The only stuff which is cheaper is the old stuff and generally it remains at the sale price once dropped anyway.

Like Freefaller said really. Most items are on sale for a reason - retailers aren't generally going to reduce their best, newest, or most popular items. I do think the January sales are good for picking up winter clothing because there's still a lot of cold months left when the sales start, but most of the time you're buying outdated items in the sale.

All year round, finding special offers is the best way to buy. Waiting for a particular day and scrumming with the crowd (even online) is just playing to the hype.

If I want or need something I will buy it when I need to at the best price.

I read somewhere that the term Black Friday became adopted by retailers as it was often the point in the year where they started to trade in profit (black).

Either way, these stores make an absolute killing on tat that would otherwise have remained unsold or offloaded elsewhere.

There are undoubtedly bargains to be had but it's well worth doing your research on what you're after (e.g. Camel Camel Camel etc) as the % off tends to be the RRP which isn't often the price you pay from places such as Amazon.

Polaroid televisions for example :p
WOW do I feel stupid getting a Sony when I could have waited for one of those bad boys at such an unmissable bargain!
