Are LED monitors worth it?

So I'm looking for a monitor to save up to, since I've got a 17" Viewsonic and figured it was probably time for an upgrade. I'd like to play Crysis and I have an HD 5770 so a "smallish" monitor would be better, and it has to fit on my bedroom desk!

I was looking at a HP 20" monitor, with a 1600x900 resolution, which is only slightly more pixels than the 1024x1280. Anyway to ge to my point, there is one for £105, and then a LED version for £135, is an LED backlight worth the £30?

Thanks!

I wil have to say yes.

I went from a 24" HP 2408 (1600x1200) to 3 Benw 2420HDBL (5760x1080).

Was prinarily for the Eyefinity i went, but also for the fact that sat in front of my HP monitor was starting to give me heat stroke.

I personally feel that the image is better on teh LED backlit monitor than it was on the HP one, but that is purely a personal preference.

A lot of this is down to your own perception of the image you are viewing. If you can, i recommend getting the two momnitors side by side and comparing the image that way.

On the green front, you will use less carbon dioxides with the LED one than the other, which works out in the long run as lower ellecy bills.

it really depends

standard LED is a bit better but nothing special, WLED makes the image a bit too white and RGB LED is noticeably better but you can't get full size RGB LED monitors, only in laptops and even then they are very expensive

It depends on how the manufacturer has implemented the technology. Samsung have done very well on this front, but in general you have to make sure you can read reviews or test out a particular panel. The LED backlighting of the HP will probably make the peak luminance of the panel a little higher (good if you like a bright image) and will make it more energy efficient and thin. I'd say it's certainly worth the £30 just for this, if that's the panel you really want to go for.

The thing that appealed about it was it is a 20" LED, and any other LED I have looked at have been either too high (22"/24") or too low (19"/18.5")

From the specifications it seems the X20 is slightly thinner, lighter and has slightly better power consumption. They state the typical but not the peak luminance - I would imagine that the peak luminance of the X20 would be higher.

My opinion is that crisis is a poor game, and newer games have better graphics that are easier on the gpu.

I personally would ditch crysis and get either mw2 or bad company 2, the former game is far superior to crysis in single player, and the latter is the best online fps since bf2.

Then get yourself a 22" monitor at 1680x1050 Which will still be in budget.

newer games definitely do not have better graphics than Crysis with any new graphics config mod, I honestly haven't come close to anything comparable with it.

MW2 is a horrible single player, first time on regular I beat that game in 3 hours, hadn't played a shooter other than Crysis and FC2 in about 12 months when I played MW2 first just to give an idea of how bad the single player is.

if you're looking for good modern single player (other than games based on effects like Crysis)then you should only look at Fallout 3, Portal, ME2, Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 IMO

The thing I like about Crysis is the graphics, and the fact that the PC can handle them. Any other "fun" games, such as MW2 and BFBC2, I would probably buy for my PS3 (though I hardly ever use it anymore!) as there is a better "online" community, which helps to make the game more enjoyable, and can be played on a larger screen!!
