I see the House of the Dead 2 and 3 has hit the Wii but I can't see the Wiimote being has good as an actual Light gun in them types of games because the Wiimote seems to have slower response times to a players movement. Where light gun games need almost instant reaction.

I loved Virtual Cop 1&2, House Of The Dead 1&2 there was also a secret agent type light gun on the Dreamcast I liked too but the name slips my mind. I also liked the Arcade game Silent Scope. Do you think or at least hope we see a Light gun appear on any of the Current gen game consoles?

I think Virtual Cop 1&2 and House of the Dead 1&2 would make great additions to the Xbox Market place. I also wouldn't mind seeing House of the Dead 4 hitting one of the current gen consoles.

1 of the main stumbling blocks with light guns is they don’t work on HDTV's, so I think they are pretty much dead, tc4 was a one off I don’t think we will be seeing another one.

Isn't it the Hertz that affect lightguns? I assume setting your screen to 60Hz should allow light guns to work more efficiently.

My god I cant believe this thread, You may have seen my earlier 1080p jokey thread about setting my megadrive up on my 42" lcdm but int he same box was my namco lightgun but I cannont find the damn game disc anywhere. I used to love all the light gun games.

Guncon 3 utilizes two infrared LEDs as markers, placed on the left and right sides of the screen. An image sensor in the muzzle tracks the markers as reference points for determining where the gun is pointing on the screen. As opposed to the Guncon and Guncon 2 (which were only compatible with CRT-based displays), the Guncon 3 supports a wide variety of display types, including LCD and HDTV.

The Guncon featured a supplemental button on each side which performed only one additional function. The Guncon 2 had three buttons and a control pad on the back of the gun which the player can have more than one function.

The Guncon 3 features a "sub-grip", mounted underneath the barrel and extending to the side for use with the left hand. On the sub-grip is an analog stick and two shoulder buttons, like in a modern gamepad. At the back end of the gun barrel is another analog stick and two buttons underneath. Another two buttons are placed along the left side of the barrel. The analog sticks allow the player to play first-person shooting games with manual aiming/firing of the light gun. In regards to appearance, all Japanese Guncon controllers feature a black coloring, though due to a US toy gun law passed in California a few years a ago, the US/PAL release of the Guncon 3 was changed to a bright orange plastic. This controller has been criticised for being uncomfortable for left-handed gamers.

:\ Think ill import the black n silver jap one.

Wii is a kids console, that's why there are no light-guns.

If there were a light-gun made available for a console, it should be a full-on version like you find in arcades with force-feedback and a heavy feel to it.

There is a decent (looking) gun based on a Walther P99, albeit in white... not as annoying as the lime green we had to put up with for the original Xbox.

I had a go at the clay pigeon type shooting (in Wii Sports?) once on the Wii, would have been more fun with a lightgun. My main problem was instinctively trailing my aim for distance targets, which wasn't actually taken into account in the mini-game. Good test of reflexes though....

Oh....Confidential Mission.

I used to love Point Blank on the PS.

I am tempted to pick up Ghost Squad or Res. Evil Umbrella Chronicles for Wii. Are the response times that bad then?

Still have Confidential Mission in my loft - I actually bought a second third party light gun just to play co-op for that title (also because the Sega DC gun was too bulky for my taste.)

I only packed it away because I can't use guns with my LCD/Projector, but I just can't bring myself to sell it.

Plus, you never know - we may go through some kind of post-apocalyptic-holocaust type event where only good ol' fashioned CRT TVs work...

Surely they can just use a wii system with a sensor bar and carry on making the games?

Yeah, that's what they did with Time Crisis, but it's highly unresponsive compared to the days of yore, unwieldy and very costly on the hardware side of things. Lightgun games are pretty much extinct now - there are no games currently in production.

I had one like that for the PS1. It plugged into the console and the mains and had a massive kickback when firing, to reload you pulled the slide back like a real pistol. It was awesome! Came in a metal flight case type thing, can't remember the name of it? Was silver and black if anyone recalls.... looked similar to the guncon.
