Are Microsoft working on the Xbox 3 ?

two significant shareholders are still Allen and Gates arent they - so not sure if many others would get a significant say (but I could be wrong)

TheDoc: Your big flaw is that MS game division posted a profit for the first time and that they are hoping for a full year of profitability.

The reason they must continue with the games consoles is because if they don't it could affect their other businesses. Thats why they are doing it.

Your big flaw is that although they made a $150m profit for the quarter they even admitted $300m of that was made from Halo sales in its first week, $150m - $300m = same loss they made this time last year.

Unless Bungie have Halo 4, 5 and 6 lined up for 2007 releases they'll back to making losses again.

So your not allowed to count Halo anymore then?

So if PS3 suddenly starts doing well when MGS4 is released, it won't count?

I think they will be working on a Slimmer quieter version of the 360, much like the ps2 slim is to the ps2, would seem to make a lot more sense as long as they can sort out any cooling solutions in a smaller chasis.

Most definitely working on the new hardware. I watched a great little interview (well more like 40 mins or so) with the lead hardware designer of the xbox 360, i THINK he mentioned contact with IBM regarding the new triple core 360 chips before the xbox was even released.

I have no doubt they're working on the next one, quite substantially. 2009-2010 would be bang on the mark aswell.

But thats the whole point, they make their money from the games sales. The 360 hardware will be making less and less of a loss overall and games sales will keep increasing. Halo 3 might have been esp big, and tipped them over the line early, but they will have several other million+ sellers to help them out.

Someone said that MS wouldn't want another console because they make a loss, I was saying that the irony was on the same day MS announced their first profit for the games division.

As for Halo 4,5 and 6 (I assume you meant for 2008), well, not exactly, but how about Halo Wars?

They was ment to be doing this with the xbox but they didn't :)

They won't make a slim version because you wouldnt be able to use your harddrive with it since they are the same width as the 360.

he has got a point though MS has lost billions to the xbox brand and continue to do so, nintendo and sony both made money from the past decade, as much as the ps3 is costing sony the ps2 is still making a shedload.

True, but MS have deeper pockets. And if MS did bunk out of the console market I wouldn't be supprised if that was mainly down to the shareholders.
