Are modular PSU cables, interchangeable?

Hi all

I'm missing a CPU power cable for my Seasonic focus 550fx!

Building a new AMD kit, using an MSI MPG X570 motherboard, which comes with both an 8pin and 4pin CPU configuration - not come accross this before. The powesupply has a single 8 pin (splitable!) CPU cable

which leaves me needing another 4 pin. Cant find anything at seasonic.

Do I specifically need a seasonic cable, or will any PSU brand cable do?

struggling to find a solution, gutted my shiny new kit will sit here dormant for the want of a £5 cable! Doh!

Thanks for any help!

For modular PSU cables, you must get replacement/additional cables with identical pinouts.

However, the extra cable you're looking for probably isn't essential. The 8pin EPS cable you already have should be sufficient to power your CPU.

Thanks for everyones input, I've returned the PSU now getting a phatter one tommorow with the required cables.

Learnt far more that I thought I needed to regarding PSU's this last 24 hours, meh!

I guess this is resolved now but I found this out a couple of months back - No, you can't use an EVGA cable with a Corsair power supply. I'll fit, but next time you try to switch it on it will just go "click" and refuse to start again for a while.

Just glad it didn't destroy anything...

That's a relief. Definitely could've bricked something there.

I made the mistake in my younger days of reusing modular cables. I was replacing a PSU and all my modular cables were neatly cabled in, and i thought i could just stick the current ones into the new PSU. Ended up burning out the wires to my fan controller.
