now ive sorted out the daily, and insurance tax mot etc, I need a weekend thrill.

My first idea was a gsxr600, being 22 i can do CBT + Direct Access and then ride it. But this takes time.

My second thought is buy something rapid, but can handle well. MR2 turbo mk2 is on the list, along with integra type r DC2, Celica GT4 etc. Whatever i get will be completely stripped and well setup in suspension and brakes.

So with 3k to spend on weekend car, what do you buy for track and fast-road use (where its safe) ?

Nothing with the exception of the Teg is going to be reliable as they are all going to be very old for your budget - ask Lordmike about the reliability of his MR2 Turbo.

That aside, I'd probably pick the MR2.

3k is pushing it but i have seen a very select few go for that.

most are very high mileage UKDMs for that though or insurance write off jobbies.

96 specs still hit 4-5k mark...

any decent 98/RX spec can be up to 7-8k...

obviously awesome car and all that ;) but at that price you'll be pushed to find a decent one.

stick with the others IMO

I had a 1992 MR2 Turbo (mk2, rev2) for 2 years (i paid £2400) as a daily driver + fun weekend car, the only thing that ever went wrong was a snapped cambelt which was my fault for not replacing it, only a £250 repair job. (No engine damage)...so imo they are very reliable! I guess trouble with these cars is you dont know what sort of life they have had. If you get one that has spent most its life running 1bar boost then no doubt more will go wrong as you clock the miles.

You wont get a nice DC2 for 3k i doubt? looked myself before buying my CTR, dogs unless your closer to 5k, but imo too much money for an older car

Too be fair to it, it wasnt all that bad. The things that did go wrong with it were mostly minor.

I have read on the owners club about people who had a lot more problems then I had with mine, luck of the draw I guess.
