If electricity costs 16p a kWh and I use a device which consumes 200 watts for 1 hour a day, does it cost approx 3p an hour to run?

200 watts for 1 hour at that rate = 3.2p

I'd be switching electricity providers though, that seems rather expensive.

My electricity bill came in this week £150 for three months use, scandulous, I used to pay around the £60 mark.

I'm not paying it, I'll give up the internet and just light my house with candles. If we all do the same they'll soon drop the prices.

Or raise the prices to make up with the little we do use.

Or the electric companies will just invest heavily in candle makers rather then improving energy generation. :p

You still have to pay it, but it will stop bills for the next 3 months :p

We pay 16.88p a unit here - and thats the cheapest we can get.

One of my workmates bills was £340 for a quarter. This he said was about normal for this quarter.

Ours was roughly £175 for 1100 units used. Pretty extortionate if you ask me.

Welcome to the world of expensive electricity caused by pointless protests about nuclear power from whinging hippies and greenies who didn't understand the technology during the 80's and 90's...

You can get those little electricity monitors that clip on your supply cable at the meter that reads how much you are using can't you?
