Are my Homeplugs limiting upload speed?

Hi all,

Recently got myself a Raspberry Pi which is great, however, I am struggling with file transfers over my home network.

When I connect the Raspberry Pi to the upstairs switch which only has my computer on it (& Xbox) I can achieve file transfer speeds of 10.9MB/S.

If I connect the RPi downstairs I only get file transfer speeds of 5.1MB/s.

I am using ONE set of homeplugs that effectively connect the Virgin Media router and the switch together. So if I plug the RPi in downstairs the connection effectively has to go via the Homeplug set whereas if its connected upstairs it only has to go via the switch?

Am I correct in thinking that the homeplugs are somehow 'limiting' the transfer speed or is something else at work here?

Homeplugs are Devolo 500s (syncing at 300 on average).

Thanks all!
