Are my temperatures ok ?

Hello,
I was wondering if my case is cool enough. The machine has crashed a couple of times and when i have opened up the side of the case it seems pretty warm in there. Looking at the Catalyst control Centre software it says the temperature is 47% and fans are running at 60% this is temps whilst machine ticking over on desktop. I do not know if this is the case temperature or cpu temp etc? Any advice would be appreciated.

Specs Are
e8400 dual core cpu
ATI HD 5870 GPU
Gigabyte ep45-ds3 mobo
2x2gig overclockers memory
700 watt psu
Big heatsink and fan also on cpu
 
Get a program such as open hardware monitor, as this will tell you temps of most of the components in your case, then let us know what they are. Also, have you overclocked the GPU or CPU?

Ok i downloaded hardware monitor and saved a report. I havent overclocked the pc. Are thesse temperatures ok? and I would like to add an extra fan to the front of machine but one that is really quiet any advice on this please.

What case do you have? How many fans and what size etc? What CPU Cooler are you using? Also if your planning an overclock what PSU?

It can be a right pain getting the right temps for an E8400 (You will find that Bios, RealTemp,Speedfan,HWmonitor etc all give different readings).

BUT!!!

They are great chips and with a little tweaking and a decent HSF you can hopefully get 4Ghz.
 
Hello again the case is a Zenith or something has a big Z badge on front. Couldn't work out how to upload a pic so i have uploaded 10 sec video to youtube of its insides. If anyone recognises the logo on the case fans i rem getting them cause the old ones were so noisy but these are really silent.
 
Arctic cooler freezer, which is facing the wrong way if the fan next to it is exhaust (pulling hot air from inside to outside) You need to face the fan on the cpu towards the front of the case

Is my arctic cooler fan really the wrong way around. I thought it's fan near to the extractor one would expell the heat ?

as far as im aware, the arctic cooler brings in cold air and with the exhaust fan taking out the hot air, it will create a vacuum and push your temps up.
 
I couldn't see from the video whether you had any fans in the front of the case. If you do you should have them pulling air into the case, turn the Cooler around so it blows air towards the rear, then have the back fan blowing the air out of the back (most fans have little arrows to show air flow.

Once you have done that report back with some temp readings and we can see if we can get you overclocked.

Also, when you take the cooler off to move it around you will need to reapply some thermal compound (arctic silver etc) , really you should clean all of the old stuff off with some alcohol and a coffee filter.

ALSO, tidy those cables :P

On a more positive note you look like you have some fairly decent kit there including a decent PSU so overclocking really shouldn't be too much of an issue.

To add on to this, when you tide the cables, try and get them behind the motherboard plate because if you leave them in front of the fan when you turn it, the airflow from the front of the case to the fan will be blocked and you wont be pulling in much cold air.

Won't be long til you're overclocking that bad boy :p

Ok i have turned around the cpu cooler and tidied cables up. I have 2 fans in fron to machine sucking air in and one at the side. The back one which is in the video above is extracting the air. Here are the latest stats has anything improved greatly?

I would suggest your next step be to download prime95 aswell as a few other temp monitoring tools. Speedfan and realtemp etc

Run prime 95 with each of the temp tools. Then we can get a better idea of temps. After all idle temps Like the ones you have posted are fairly pointless.
 
Ok i have run hardware monitor with Prime95 at 100%load the cpu cores are getting up to 57c is this good. Also can you check whats what with the readout below looks like gobbldy gook to me :)

Everything is looking fine.

Now to start overclocking. Personally I would whack it up to 4ghz with 1.3 v and go from there but I'm a lazy overclocker. Your prob better to start with 3.2 at stock then increase it slowly from there remembering to stress test after every increase and keep an eye on the temps overclocking (more voltage Is the main culprit) means increased heat.
