not sure about your temps, are those idle or loaded?

the 5850 should run cooler than that 8600GS, performance difference will be night and day

The idle temps look a bit high but nothing dangerous. Do you have the stock cooler on or a custom one? Be interesting to see if they are getting into the 80s or higher under load. What's your room temp?

The HD 5850 should be about 50 idle and 70+ under load which is OK for those cards.

no it doesnt go into the 80's under load it goes into late 60's early 70's.

Early 70s is OK but I would still like it down a bit. Did you fit the cooler yourself or come prebuilt? May be worth taking fan off, cleaning, applying new paste and reseating, but not a big need. It depends on the fan type and room temps. A big room temp and stock fan and you would expect higher temps, a cool room with aftermarket cooler and they are high and could do with being fixed.

fan was pre-built, im getting the 5850 on saturday, it should be cooler with that in correct?

I would think so. The 5870 idles in the mid 30's at 30% fan usage with an intake fan of 970rpm.
