Are OCUK Forums in decline?

The term **** was offensive to Indians from India a few years ago due to a dislike between the 2 countries in the 70s and 80s.

So was deemed offensive by Indians from India.

ironic that it was made to be offensive by the very people who think it is offensive

Please behave and observe common decency

I've moved this thread back as I think it was interesting discussion.

Can I ask a few things:

1) Let's not bash the mod team but please do offer constructive ideas
2) Let's not use racist slurs such as the P word, or N word as an example
3) Let's have a well balanced discussion of what people want
4) Let's keep stereotypes and aggressive posting out of this
5) No personal attacks, if you disagree with someone, count to 10, step away, or post a sensible reaction.
6) Usual forum rules apply.

For what it's worth, I think the general (i.e. 99%) of people on this forum are well behaved, non racist intelligent users. Sure, we get some people that like to push the boundaries of decency, but we have to be flexible.

This is your opportunity to discuss this as a forum and as a group of people.

Please do not troll, be rude, or try to circumvent the rules and let us have a decent discussion.

As you can imagine this thread will be heavily moderated.

It's funny though, if it's someone who's black who commits a murder it's "Black man murders war veteran", but if it's a white dude? "Man murders war veteran", why does it make a difference if he was black or not?

Accentuating the point of their race is just trying to bait replies and get other bigots to agree with them, something is not automatically worse because a black man did it, and someone did not do it because they are a black man, their race is irrelevant and it shouldn't be a discussing point what-so-ever.

Agreed entirely. However, we cannot ban or suspend someone for posting in that style. Some people do have biggoted views, hopefully with our help we can change their views. Or at least air our disgust (within the rules) and with your permission (to everyone on the forum) I'd be happy to edit thread titles if that is something you wish me to do?

If someone posts it in a post I think it's down to you to moderate it or RTM it. As it's unfair for me to project MY values onto everyone here... that's why I want this to be discussed. I could easily delete a lot of things which I think are unreasonable / irrelevant / not sensitive or sensible, however I don't think that's conducive to a rich forum cross section of ideas.

Can people stop posting meme's as the first replies in threads such as Cool Story Bro etc.

If people want to post then they should post sensibly or not at all.

And yes I'm guilty of it but I've realised what a **** I look like.

Hilarious that this was moved / removed in the first place. Nice to see common sense has bought it back.

It was a good debate. I'm not sure it will pick up again, thread was killed in essence last night. Nice to have it back none the less.

"I'm not racist; one of my best friends is Black!" lol

Thats nealry as bas as "im not racist but"

Not really. You can't be racist towards a certain race and be friends with some of them...That would merely mean you aren't actually racist at all, and you just have some underlying issues towards certain people.

Thanks for re-opening freefaller, hopefully it can actually be kept on topic this time. :)

Source please.

Not really seen a decline in GD since I've been here.

The quality has always been golden threads lodged between non-sense and there's still ample supply of fresh threads?

I think the only change has been the use of language seems to be ever degrading.

It needed a review. I'm sure if people want to discuss it it'll come back to life. :)

I'm not sure where you got this from but it's certainly not what I understand the term to mean or where it's come from.

Would the better option to of locked it, posted a comment saying 'Thread is going to be moved for a review' type post and bring it back.

Rather then just removing a thread with no explanation, just because it seemed to be bordering on being critical of the rules and moderators.

Sometimes you need a moment to sit back and think whether a thread goes too far and whether it can be a constructive debate. The answer here obviously is yes. Taking the time to do this is a good thing :)

This and more. I'm also guilty of this a fair bit, but mainly because it's not frowned upon so if I feel like acting like a little ****, well, I will on occasion.

Obviously you need to let the forums breathe, this is GD, and the main point of it is to have a laugh, express your views and ask for advice not catered for in the other sub-forums. But it does go too far in being 'a laugh', a lot of the single word replies, pee taking and utter nonsense could be moderated more heavily without any detriment to the forum imo.
