Are OCUK Forums in decline?

OK, there was a certain irony:

OP: 'Are OCUK Forums in decline?'

You post: 'They voted me Man of Honour, all down hill now.'

Decline = down hill.

I post: 'OPs point was that this forum is going down hill.... ? You gonna help it along?'

That's it. Capish?

I'm old, it 3 weeks time I'll get it but that's not your fault, its the cobwebs where brain cells once resided :(

No worries. I'm very, very old. I have my moments but they are very few and far between. I'm on a roll tonight!

Toast is not Toast it's bread. Toast is what happens to bread when put in a Toaster.

Point ----------------------------> you.

He was suggesting that a "spec me a toaster" thread is pointless, as there's only really one way to toast the bread. Toast is toast is toast, as it were :p

Lol i thought your were just joking, untill i googled it and its true...

Anyway i must say OCUK has much improved, there are a lot more quality posters fighting back against the bigots

To be perfectly honest, whilst Spie could've phrased it more diplomatically, he kind of has a point. The vast majority of people in hotter LEDCs smell horrid! Simply because of lack of education, hot climate and lack of basic hygiene.

It's VERY different then someone being called a Scot or Brit

It's been offensive to Pakistani people for nearly 50 years, the fact you don't except their right to be offended by it says a lot about you tbh

Over the last 50 years, the meaning of the p word has changed greatly. When I first came to the country about two decades ago, I was called it in an extremely racist way. The word was initially used as short for Pakistani, but then became used as hate for pretty much anyone with brownish skin. Then when i was a teenager and adult, it was used more in the sense of racial banter, also it also became short for Pakistani once again.

This depends on place to place ofcourse. Harrow and Wimbledon are two places I've lived and harrow is full of Asians, Wimbledon is dominated by white people (atleast it was) and in harrow, calling someone the p word would be unacceptable, but in Wimbledon it would be a legitimate term. The two places are less than 2 hours away from eachither by drive yet the local lingo is so different. It really depends on how you perceive racism.

But back on topic, another reason posting can go down is because of the cold. Yes, the weather! I post a lot whilst commuting but in the cold weather I just can't be bothered or else my handsll freeze! In the summer my posts usually go up because I'm not standing rigid trying not to freeze!:p

Sorry for double posting. Will edit the above post with what I've read since posting as I had to read and reply half te thread at a time.

I tend to RTM everything I see that is directly breaking the rules.

Can I have a medal or something? :p

Ever since my sig was deleted, I've been really anal about other peoples'. I'm pretty certain I've downloaded most people's sigs and checked them:eek:

I disagree with DD 100% in every way. However just to play devil's advocate...

He is offering his opinion - it's a tough call though. Personally I want to delete the posts, and suspend him for being intollerant, but can I really do that?! It is his perception of how he sees the world, we cannot change his opinion or who he is, it is sad the he feels the way he does :( However, it helps us appreciate how well balanced the rest of us are.

I have to say, I respect DD a great deal. Like you, I don't agree with his opinion most of the time, his ever he is entitled to it. I'm sure he's formed his opinion from his own personal experience. I'm sure Jews from the holocaust would have had strong feelings towards ALL Germans at some point. In the race threads, DD has appeared quite bigoted and racist at times. I've mentioned many times to him that I am Indian but I don't think he's ever treated me any differently because of it. Who cares if he airs his racist thoughts. That's prejudice, but what's bad is discrimination, and discrimination is defined as when you act upon the prejudice which I don't think DD has ever done. What harm is it to anyone if he tells us what he thinks about all people who aren't white? I won't have any problems with him until he starts acting negatively to those thoughts.

That is true, I don't think I have seen anyone really thank a moderator for all the work that is put into the forum. Yet, when something minor crops up, we get all the abuse and criticism.

I generally get thanked a lot for the work I do for customer based work, but never seen a moderator here be thanked for the unpaid efforts.

didn't FF get thanked regarding him answering emails very quickly :p

(think it was page 5 in this thread, can't remember exactly)

And how exactly do we know he doesn't? Odds are that someone expressing racist views is more likely to act out in a racist fashion. Bigots within any area, be it sexism, racism or homophobia, tend to be vocal about their bigotry.

Ok this seems to have deviated a little from the original post.

Quoted below:

"O'K, this is a weird one.

A while back I noticed that if I posted (or anyone for that matter) a thread in GD, within a few hours it would be knocked onto page 2-3 with or without replies. Now, back to the current time frame, I can post a thread and it will stay on page 1 nearly all day. This is showing me signs of decline.

Now, it could just be me, but have any of you guys noticed this or not? "

I can only speak on what I've seen him do on the forums :p

If he has done something wrong and hasn't done anything to rectify, then I hope the law catches up with him ;)

What I've seen on th forums, he's never actively or even passively discriminated on someone.

Are we talking about volume of posts in decline or the content of those posts?

Read the fairly (well sort of ) erudite original post if you need clarification: -
