Are OCUK Forums in decline?

Could easily agree, i disappeared for a while and came back and it definitely seems different to before.
It is quieter, which make the argumentative people stand out more, and there seems to be a lot of people who wade into threads for no real reason other than to shout about something.

OcUK Forums best days have been and gone, but that doesn't stop this being a good place over all :)

As a whole, the forums are largely the same, it's just that some members have found better ways to spend their time or have moved on.

I still love it, but I'm far less inclined to discuss anything seriously on a forum because it's dawned on me how universally pointless it is. I'm much more inclined to treat OCUK as something fun than as a 'time sink', but for everyone else that means the quality of my posts has gone dramatically downhill.

Sorry about that :p

I just realised who started this thread.

He's the guy who lied about the lottery win right?
If so then yes, they are in decline because of people like you

There are still plenty of people willing to discuss topics. You just have to ignore the people that aren't debating sensibly.

I do seriously dislike the immediate branding of people as trolls as soon as they disagree with you though. Many debates and discussions are fine, and then someone gets their panties in a twist and claims everyone is a troll.

Ignore the real trolls, don't call non-trolls trolls and just keep discussing.

These forums are made good by the posters, if you don't think the forums are good then it's because people aren't making the effort.

This was something else, I remember. People calling others trolls simply because they didn't agree. The thinking here is very boxed in indeed. It's highly frustrating if you're trying to have a developed argument.

Troll seems like the 'in word' these days.

I wonder what the average age is on these forums these days as some of the comments and stabbing etc seem to be coming from very immature people?

Or viciously savage the said troll so badly, and intellectually, that he wets himself when he looks in your direction in future.

I find that all the more satisfying. ;)

Although I do find myself having less to comment on these days, not sure if that's me / here / the times.

Can you go any lower than bottom of the barrel?

:o

:D

The main problem with OCUK is the amount of people who think the 'I'm an ass, and it's cool' attitude is something to adhere to. And because its so rampant, a lot of the newer poster see the attitude and think they'll post to the same sort of standard.

Hopefully they will realise soon though that they just look like morons.

Trolling has developed in meaning.

It used to mean simply annoying others to get a reaction. Now it means being irritating, insulting, rude, idiotic, disruptive - or just plain stupid, inaccurate and wrong.

It's also a defence, since non-trolls can claim they were trolling when they weren't. 4chan's /b/ is built around a modern idea of trolling, which is trolling as a network but without a real cause, rather than as individuals. People can also claim to troll for political motives, whereas trolling at its centre has no real cause other than trolling itself.

I'm getting rather tired of the 'lolusername' posts, they don't contribute to anything and usually derail the thread pretty quickly. Seems like a bit of a forced joke nowadays, just like thanksfortheinfo.jpg (is it still a bannable offence to post it?).
