Are postcode checkers ever wrong?

I'm about to move into a flat with my gf. I've checked the postcode on the ntl and blueyonder websites and both say that they do not cover the area. Is there any chance this could be wrong or am I likely to be stuck with BT?

I would really prefer cable as I do not want to pay for a regular phone line which isn't even going to have a phone plugged into it. Thx.

With cable, the postcode checkers are generally correct, but I guess it may be worth phoning them both up and double checking?

Your best phoning them and give them the exact address. Sometimes they wont run cables to some address.

Yes they can be wrong, ntl's site says broadband isnt available at this address yet im posting this on a 1mbit ntl line :gofigure:

Sitting here on a 2mb BT ADSL line and the checker said I might not be able to 512kb and had no chance of 1mb, let alone 2mb......

Although I am a couple of miles from the exchange, so just got lucky I guess as a neighbour can only get 1mb......

What area are you moving to? NTL and Bluyonder have thier own cabled network. So you are using their cables. This means the post code checker will be pretty accurate as they will know where they already have cables installed.

Phone them. If there is anyway the salesman can get a cable to you, he will try. ('tis all commision anyway... lol)

One item that is worth noting though. You said "flat". Is this your property, or rented? And how high from the ground is it? Sometimes NTL will have problems in installing in flats as they will need permission from the landlord to whack a cable through the wall. And if the flat is too high, they won't be able to get there on the ladder.
