Are powerline adapters good

I ended up using some Devolo 650 adapters after having some issues with our PS3 streaming over wireless and they've done the job great.

Got a single port adapter by the router, then in the living room have a 3 gigabit port adapter with the PS3, NAS and TV plugged in.

Yes it would be faster and cheaper, albeit with some 'labour' added in, to go proper wired but haven't had any issues with speeds so far (everything else in the house is wireless anyway) and stability has been rock solid without any drop outs in the 2 years or so we've had them.

These are my results transferring 5GB film to and from my NAS through power line using devolo 1200's.

Yeah, slow :o

I only took my laptop downstairs to test throughput, the only thing that comes through my power line is Virgin 100mbs, so its works plenty well. I have my own network upstairs with using an 8 port gigabit switch connecting everything I use (NAS PC TV etc )

No. Lots of clients we go to rent and we put multiple holes through walls to install cabling. Landlords aren't all dragons. (Appreciate yours may not want you to do that at which point Yes).

I get my full BT Infinity speed are relatively decent speeds to my NAS via powerline/WiFi, I can't imagine why I'd want to go to the hassle of running cables and making holes in walls when I'd only have to repair any damage when I move out again.

I'm afraid you're just going to have to face the fact that Powerline adapters are completely suitable for many people's requirements/circumstances.

Yea it's fine when you get it professionally done but for most it's just much easier and usually cheaper to get power lines. More convenient too instead of worrying if the landlord will be upset.

You get your full infinity speeds because the speed delivered from most ISP's will never test even the cheapest powerline adapters.

I'm fully aware they are suitable for most. Also aware they certainly aren't the best solution as well.

A Cat5(e) is a constant and the result can be expected, give a set of powerlines to 5 different people and all of them will come back with varying results. Some good and will swear by them and others not so good who will hate them. Give the same 5 people a Cat5e and the results will be the same (apart form person 5 whose landlord said no lol)
