Are Protons Reliable?

I know someone who had a 1.5 G plate Proton GLS i think it was, just to get him to work and back. It wasnt attractive, fast or anything like that. It was horrific inside, but dam it was reliable!

My uncle had one, the triple valver on a j-reg I think. He had it for over 4 years and it passed an MOT each year and never failed once. He sold it for peanuts and bought a dearer car and had nothing but problems. :D He regretted selling it in the end and wished he still had it.

I think that was the one.

The older ones are bulletproof, my dad has one that all the drivers use at his takeaway gets abused to hell!! and takes it.

They're malaysian so, no.

Stupid comment of the day alert.

Care to justify your comment?

Ever been to Malaysia?

Ever been in/driven a Proton?

Damn, I guess the fact that my Athlon FX57 was made in Malaysia (along with most AMD CPU's) means it should cop out any minute now. Cheap, uncomplicated rubbish that it is.

rovers were made in england and that puts me off buying them. am i racist against myself?

also would i be pro-discrminating against japanese and german cars if i said i would more likely buy them?

I had one a while, got it for free :) It was a lot of fun to drive if you were perpared to rag it everywhere, only things that broke were interior trim and the windy-up windows, mainly due to being air-borne a lot of the time, and landing's were hard! :D.

Then one day the alarm went off on it (Which I never even knew it had one after about 7mths!) and some sort of immobiliser kicked in, never got it started again :( I was going to fix it but got given a free Escort instead.

So similarly would you be put off buying an Aston Martin, TVR, or Noble, just because they are english?

None of those cars a built to such a low budget, in fact those cars appear to be "no expense spared" type cars.

Agreed, but what is the relevance of that in this argument?

He said he wouldn't buy a Rover because it was English, not because of price, spec etc etc
