OK so I have just (Sunday) got a PS3 and it is all set up, connected via optical to by 5.1 (nice), updated, music, videos and photos copied to it (cool) and I thought I'd try out Pain.

Why on earth did a 200MB file take so freaking long to download. I am on a 20mb connection for the love of the Goddess.

Are these speed normal? I have Stardust HD on the boil too and that is taking yonks.

:(

I get slow speeds usually until 12am+

20Mb also, but my PC and Xbox download very fast, quite annoying.

Bionic Commando Rearmed took about 10 mins for 320Mb though which wasn't that bad, during the day too was quite surprised.

Last year Tekken 5 took 5 hours to download. :D:D:D

Most people on non Virgin Media ISPs find it fast. (Certainly PSN downloads push my connection to it's maximum, when some webpages and xbox live downloads do not manage that).

I suspect you are with Virgin Media. On many forums PS3 owners with Virgin Media have slow downloads. I believe a member on these forums got to the bottom of it and found it was certain modems they supplied that caused this issue.
I forget the exact details, but it is documented somewhere on the forum.

Edit: I bet the guy who posted above (after I started typing this) is also on Virgin Media.

It slow as hell for me to. Again 20mb virgin media. Looking on my router the ps3 is only making one connection to the download server, whereas xbl will make several as will things like usenet to really max out your connection. Your not gonna get anywhere fast with 1 connection.

The most ive got off there is about 200kbps.

I also player a wager on you guys being on VM. I changed from a 4mb VM cable to 2mb BeThere line and I find PSN downloads faster.

I am on VM and I have the blue transparent modem connected to Airport Extreme 802.11n base-station. Every other device is fast. All except the PSN stuuf. No problems with any laptops Mac or PC or the 360 or Wii.

Stupid VM :(

I'm on VM 20MB connection and it is quite slow, although not as slow as some of you guys are saying

Anyone know if there is a fix for this problem?

It has to be related to your provider or network setup, PSN maxes out my connection almost all the time.

Maybe it is port related?

Out of interest, is anybody connected right now?

I just turned my PS3 on, only to watch a DVD, but noticed it didn't auto sign-in.

When I tried to do it manually, it said access to the Playstation Network has been suspended, and to try again later.

Maybe they're updating something?

Vin.

EDIT: Unable to sign into US or Japanese PSN either.

EDIT2: Would be good if they were preparing to update to 2.5? ;)

CVG has learned from a shadowy "development source" that the next major PS3 firmware update, possibly 2.5, may include the ability to capture screenshots directly from the PS3. "Exactly how this would be done and what you could do with the shots once you've grabbed a piece of the action isn't yet known."

The PS3 already has the ability to save images from games to the hard drive, but they must be specifically programmed into each game. For example, players can save low-res images from Metal Gear Solid 4's camera. They can also save images from replay videos in WipEout HD. Having the ability to take screengrabs whenever will let us immortalize our most cherished gaming moments ... and will certainly make our jobs easier.

I've only had a slow download a couple of times, that's overloaded servers though because downloading something different from PSN at the same time flys :)

As a side note: PSN's down at the moment from 4pm for 5 hours apparently.

-EDIT-

Beaten to it :P

Who are you with, out of interest?

VM here and suffer the slow speeds from the Stores, though game updates generally fly down.

I'm with BT but quite a few other people with BT have no problem so more likely a problem with my setup somewhere

Ok try putting it into the DMZ on your router, its a bit risky for PC's as its open to attack and not firewalled, but for a check to see if its a port issue on your PS3 its worth a try. If its faster then you know its a port issue and i think there is info in the PS3 faq on how to configure the router for PSN, if you dont want to keep the PS3 in the DMZ.
