Are PSN downloads always this slow?

I'm with BT but quite a few other people with BT have no problem so more likely a problem with my setup somewhere

wireless?
i find it slow on bt with wireless even though the hub is right next to ps3
but its fast enough normally wired

make sure have UPnP enabled in the home hub too

I cannot see how my slow speeds are wifi related as the signal is good and both a Windows and Apple laptop download at the full whack in the same area.

If it is port related then why do most updates come down nice and fast?

Nothing to do with wifi. The problem is your Internet Provider (VM) and/or some of their equipment, as evidenced by this thread, I think.

I am fairly sure 1 of the 3 or so modems they supply don't have this problem. I can't recall which user here had the issue, but they did, spoke to people they knew at VM got modem swapped and all was fine and dandy. This proving the problem is with the ISP and their equipment, not with PSN, your PS3, wifi etc.

Also it has absolutely nothing to do with ports. A port is open or closed. A closed port does not transmit data slower than an open one.

Yep it is indeed wireless.
My Xbox360 is wired and has no problems, never tried the PS3 wired

I posted the fix that i got from a friend who works for vigin media a long time ago on the forum.
I am on 20meg download and it was painfully slow with the ps3 but quick with my 360 and pc.
He spent a lot of time checking my system and found the only thing that cured it was to change the modem to a scientific atlanta.
With the new modem the download speeds on the ps3 are about the same as the 360.

My VM modem had always been scientific atlanta. I also remember seeing someone post some new settings to fix the speeds but that didn't help.
