Are quads 'realy' that hot?

I have a B3 quad with TT @3.2 and hits 70 when loaded, i've looked at other results and this seems about normal.

Thing is, all the other things in my pc that get hot, feel hot.
Gfx card shows 70 deg, it feels very hot to touch.
The nothbridge passive cooler gets hot and when my old 3800x2 hit 50 deg, it was hot to touch and would blow out very warm air.

Now, 70 deg (TAT and core temp) my TT just gets a little bit warm.
I've lapped the cpu and TT, added washers to the screws and applied the arctic silver the correct way as per the website, this reduced my temps a few degs and balanced out the temp across the cores at load.
I've also removed the base of the TT from the heat pipes, cleaned of the ruff stuff that didn't cover the length of the pipes (think it was some sort of solder), cleaned it all with sand paper, applied some arctic silver and put it all back together.
Same temps, well maybe 1 deg less but that could have been just the re-seat.

So anyway, i have a thermal probe on the north bridge which reads 44 under load, which feels about right and the base of the TT reads 40+, it just feels warm as if it not making a good contact with the IHS.

These chips ars supposed to throttle at 85, but has anyone actually had one do it, and at what temp in core temp?
It just dosn't feel like the base is conducting that much heat.

STR, if your t-junction is 85 in core temp, and it throttled at 85 deg, does this mean then that a B3 will throtle at 100?
Is the IHS soldered on the B3's, there are some pics of some E2xxx with TIM under the IHS.

Core temp says Tjunction 100c, i will try to find the link for you.

Sorry, it's the E4300's, just google for e4300 IHS removed.

Edit:- just looked again and it says the E4xxx and the E2xxx have thermal paste on them.

Ive just finished setting up my Quad rig. Im impressed with the temps.

I've got a Quad E6600 G0 stepping running at 3ghz, idle temps are currently 37-39c.

How long would i need to run prime to get load temps?

A few minutes using small FFT's should be ok, though they will increase a little after a while.

Thank's str, i never knew how to post screen shots:)
Time to see if mine throttles i think.

If i don't post back, it's dead.

Are you using 64bit? I dont think TAT works but with Coretemp, i think you have to dissable driver signing at startup by pressing f8

Was priming it.

If it did throttle at 100, then would it do much harm taking it to 85 - 90?
I know colder is better, but if they can work at these temps, it should be ok, right?
It' like a GO hitting 70 - 75.

I didn't look at cpu-z, i was using CPUmark which shows temps,load,multi,v-core and throttling. My multi stayed at x9.
Temps are the same as coretemp but the VID shows .063v less than CPU-z.

This thread was started a year and a half ago and my 96deg quad is still going strong!
Pushing it much further now with a new board and water:D
