I'm in a position where I need to build myself a fairly low spec system, and a mid range Shuttle with cpu/ram and hd seems to fit the bill. I don't really want to spend more than £350, but I would rather spend less. I have found what seems to be a reasonably good spec for the money, but one thing still concerns me and that is noise. I have built a Shuttle once before but that was years ago and it surprised me just how loud it was. I'm sure many things have changed since then, including the power supplies which were responsible for all the noise - but how good are they now?
Spec wise I'm not entirely sure which way to go - I don't want it for extensive gaming, so VGA in not of much importance, however I would prefer a Nvidia chipset over Intel. I would like to do a little niche gaming but my games are more cpu intensive than gpu intense these days.
I was looking at the Shuttle XPC SN78SH, which is excellent value and has the Nvidia chipset. But I am concerned the 300w psu might be a touch loud.
Any advice would be appreciated.
