on deaktop with the computer doing nothing apart from Everest running the cpu temps for core 1 and 2 are mid to high 40oc range and core 3 and 4 low 40oc range... but the other night i ran Prime95 for 10 min as i lost my bottle and stopped the test due to temps that the cores reached.. core 1 and 2 in prime cpu torture test peaked at 89oc! and core 3 and 4 were at high 70oc and low 80oc... are these tempreratures normal with my overclock setup? in my opinion they too high.. i might have not seated the heatsink properly on the cpu also i didnt get arctic 5 compound with my rig but a cheap one that came with the cpu cooler... also my case fans were all on full speed... do you think i should reseat the heatsink or get watercooling for the cpu... or am i paranoid and the temps are fine lol??? p.s in the 10 mins of prime95 test no errors were detected...

I think Rick said elsewhere that if the AC5 didn't come with your install it should have, so post in the OC thread as he requested. The issues thread down the forum. You temps seems strange, as if your cooler has better contatc on one side than the other, I'd try reseating it once you get the AC5.

yea thats the one... i swear if temps dont drop at load i remove the fan it came with and fix a delta fan to it lol.. if it still high 80oc i will go down water cooling route...

It might be worth checking that you have filled in the gaps between the nickel base and the copper heatpipes. It's a bit tricky to explain, but looking at the Fenrir I have here for my Q6600, I plan to take a small smudge of AS5 and massage into the weeee gaps between the base and the pipes. I saw an illustrated guide to this related to the Sunbeam core contact cooler somewhere but I'm stuffed if I can find it.

In short, they applied the TIM normally [IE dab it on, spead it around with the cooler, check, repeat till fully coveed with a thin layer of TIM evenly on the CPU] and found the temperatures weren't a blinding as everyone was raving about.

they pulled off the HSF, and made sure those gaps were fully plugged up with TIM to get rid of any air pockets, and retried - and temps dropped like a stone.

So for the couple of minutes that will take, it's woth a shot I reckon.

the offset temperatures might suggest that some of the heatpipe/baseplate gaps are filled while others aren't, too....

80c is OK....mine loads at 78c. Any higher is a bit close to the throttle point. But definitely reseat your cooler. Sometimes it takes a few goes to get it right.

...

i have taken out the heatsink cleaned off the old termal paste off the cpu and heatsink and applied AS5 this time i massaged it into the micro groves on the heatsink base using the clingflim method... and pasted a layer on the cpu spreading it out with a card but still im getting weird temps on the cores with 49oc 50oc on core 1 and 2 and 47 48 on core 3 and 4 no stress just with everest running to display temps my case is very clean from inside and no cable mess... however i noticed that the backplate of the Titan Fenrir did not sit flush againsed the motherboard e.g. if i pushed one side of the backplate to the motherboard the opposite side would move away.... also the cut copper contacts on the top of the heat sink well 2 are moving well they like loose could this cause the problem???

geekazoid ur getting the same temps as me mm im gunna call OCUK tomorow see whats up, we have the same bundle + casewhat speed are urcase fans on?

i run crysis an the tempts instantly jump to 75 lol, an thats just with the core running at 2.8 geekazoid, i think my overclock is buggard

Mikeey did u contact Overclockers

after reseating the heatsink 3 times and still getting weird temps i have concluded that either my heatsink base is not level or there is a bevel in the cpu also looking at the temps i can say that the temp sensors for the cores might be malfunctioning as in everest cpu temp is showing at 34oc and core 1 and 2 are between 47 and 48 and core 3 at 4 at 45 46oc no stress just everest running. why would cpu temp be normal and core temp significantly higher? what i will now do i increase the cpu cooling fan speed to max all time and see if that changes temps if they do not drop then it could be pointing towards malfunctioning core temp sensors...

if all else fails i will test the temps on a new cpu cooler...

ok...

after increasing the cpu fan speed to run at max all the time from bios the temps are still the same this seems strange.... my northbridge temp is reading at 44oc...

Geekazoid i called tech support, they asked me to post in custom support section of the forum, yeh dude i dont think mine is overclocked fully? what speed is ur system at idle?

with a temp of

check in your bios

yours does look like its overclocked... to make sure go into the bios (del key at bootscreen) and then MB intelligent tweaker (M.I.T) and check your clock frequency.... but mine and your temps are same how many times have you reseated the heatsink

geekazoid, did what u said

CPU Clock Ratio 20x
CPU frequency 3.82Ghz (191x20)

Are yours the same??

Ive only sat the heatsink once, ive bought Artic Silver 5 from OCUK today, so gunna reseat it once it arrives

yes mate

mine is the same.. let me know what temps u get when u seat the heatsink with AS5 thermal paste... if my temps dont shift i might lapp the base of the heatsink as the Titan Fenrir has an uneven base hmm dont know if u can lap the titan fenrir base???
