are temps too high?

yea...

urs is slightly downclocked... mine is sitting at 4ghz solid... if u want i can tell u the setting i have for each option on that page to get that... but that small difference in clock frequency wont be noted in applications...

Yeh that would be great geekazoid,

You say yours is sitting at 4ghz solid, so let me grasp overclocking,

Does it mean :

A) when your system is idle the multiplier will be low, so ur cpu will sit at low speeds of around 1.6~Gghz, and when you put the system under more load the multiplier will increase, increasing it up to 4Ghz gradually (as can be seen on a prog like cpu-z)

OR

B) I thought the cores run at 4ghz constantly, not differ depending on the load your applying to your system

I wonder why mine is downclocked :[ I ran crysis on high lastnight to put it under some load, and the max speed it got to was 2.8GHz

i think i need to turn off the turbo boost tech also to stop the core freq changing all the time, i dont know, i got this package so i wouldent have todo this an it all seems to be buggard :(:(

geekazoid can u take a few pics of all ur settings in the M.I.T sec of bios, including a pic of the 'advanced features' on the first page of the M.I.T, i will just copy them :p

If you turn off turbo boost then you will only get an overclock of around 3.8ghz on load as turbo boost gives you the the extra multiplier allowing the 4ghz. Speedstep is the reason why the CPU keeps changing its speed this option is enabled to save power and stop the system constantly running at high temps.

Also have you tightened the cooler as much as possible?

... hey

im actually changing my cooler as i dont like the Titan Fenrir just aint doing its job... im gonna buy the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler off OCUK http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

hopefully that bring my stress temps down from 80 - 90oc average!!! :(

the base on the titan is poorly leveled and i cant be asked with lapping...

[edit] ps Mikeey i will post the information tonight about mobo setting off out at the moment enjoying the sun :)

ditto geekazoid, been out all day in the sun, well lovely at the moment :D

Evoaddict thx for the info, OCUK sending me a new bios profile, then im gunna resit the cooler with As5 an hope the temps arent still crazy, if they are it must be the chip itsself?

Evoaddict, do most people not use speedstep? i see peoples screenshots of there idle temps with cpu-z open, an it has a 4ghz solid core showing

Mikeey44 people usually turn it off when benchmarking when they need screenshots to prove the speeds but speedstep is optional feature. We at OCUK put speedstep on for customers who are just using it mainly for gaming or internet surfing, if they wish to benchmark they can turn it off if they wish. Let me know how you both get on with your new temps after you reseat the cooler and geekazoid with the watercooling.

Evoaddict, I have resat the cooler with Artic silver 5, i also rubbed the paste onto the fenrir cooler between the grooves of the copper, the idle temps (actually running at 4ghz now thanks to rjkoneill's profile) are between 40-42c ( taken mid day when its HOT, will take them again later tonight after ambient temps go down :D

Geekazoid, it seems the AS5 + a carefull re-seat worked for me, i done know if 40c is a good temp for 4ghz solid @ idle, perhaps somebody will tell me

yea

they good temps mate at idle... run prime95 mate on large FFT's and then report the temp on load... good software for checking temps is Everest Ultimate edition...

i have concluded after reapplying AS5 and reseating heatsink several times that sommat is wrong with the heatsink so i have placed an order on the best cpu cooler on the market lol...

Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme Intel BP 120mm Heat Sink Fan Intel 775 & 1366 !! CPU (Without Fan)
and

2x
120mm Sharkoon System Fan Power 39dB(A) 2400 rpm Case Fan with 81cfm!

with those fans in push and pull setup and that cpu heatsink if my temps dont drop then im afraid to say that i simply have a hot running cpu and wont be able to run it at 4ghz clock... right at this moment to be on the safe side im running cpu clock at 3.4ghz untill my new gear arrives on tuesday :)

[edit] once new heatsink is installed i will report you the temps on a 4ghz setup on prime95... p.s. what was rjkoneill's profile??

i will post an everest screenshot later tonight, also will try prime95 and post screenshot of that also for you

Yeh rjkoneill sent me a 4ghz profile, as for some reason i had a 3.8 one, so ive loaded that and im now running @ 4ghz :D
