hi

i have a pc coming out of storage soon with a i5 3570k o/c'd to 4.5 ghz under a khuler 920 single cooler. i brought the 1250 from here thiniing it would be a better cooler when i ramp up the o/c a little more.

will this cooler be ok or should i get another one or go full water which i'm hessitant to do do to lack of experience?

My main problems with it was that there was a dank, stale smell from it that took ages (months) to go away (not completely unusual with AIOs but usually goes away in 2-3 days of use) and the pump makes quite a lot of noise - which when the rest of my PC is pretty much silent is quite irritating.

I found the cooling performance fairly decent if you turn it right up but you wouldn't want to run it like that 24x7 and performance under normal settings seems to have degraded towards average over time (not due to dust, etc.) - I definitely wouldn't buy one again for a rig I used every day but for a setup dedicated to overclocking I might.

EDIT: They did tweak it slightly since I bought but I doubt its enough to make that much odds to the experience I've had with it.

if you've got it, then give it a try, see what the temps run like and go from there.

from that point you can figure out if you want to go full water, plenty of people around here would help you out if you wanted to get into it.

yes i think i may give it ago as the 620 does a great job at present and i naturally assumed the upgrade would perform and be better but i have read some reviews on it recently that say its an average performer. would a corsair h100i or its replacement be better?

i suppose pumping a £100 into an aio for not much more i could buy a WC system thats ready to use form OCUK that would be a good starter base. sell my 1250 to go towards it.

i have the antec 1250 on my 4930k and the cpu never goes over 50c, runs silent and ive had corsair h80 before and the pump used to buzz this hasnt got any noise from the pump
