Are there any 4 X Strategy games with a campaign?

As per title I am looking for a story driven 4 x game, can be turn based or rts. I have Gal Civ II and I really like it, but want a story driven campaign.

Agreed, it's not bad and if you're a slow player like me you'll get a decent amount of time from it, but if you're experienced you'll probably blitz through it quite rapidly.

My main annoyance with it is that, as someone who doesn't play that many strategy games, it's not always obvious what you're supposed to do. Sometimes the game tells you, sometimes not, which meant I've found myself completely stuck until a quick Google revealed the solution.
 
I've only played the tutorial so far, but Fallen Enchantres I think has a story driven campaign - by the same people that did GalCiv2
Sup Com 2 has a story drive campaign - not as good as skimish matches IMHO - but it is story driven!
 
Not exactly 4X, but King Arthur The Role Playing Game was story driven.
It was basically Total War with a plot; Turn based Campaign Map, and RTS battles.

The downside of the plot was that it didn't have much re-playability; though they did introduce a slightly more sandbox mode in the DLC.
