Are there any 4850's due with better coolers?

Heya.

I'm really wanting one of these cards, but dont like the idea of all the heat in the case.

Anything coming out with a 2 slot solution?
Or a better zalman style cooler already pre-installed?

Cheers.

I've not had any problems so far. The card seems to want to run at around 80C but I'm not finding any obvious heat built up in the case with a low cfm 80mm fan even after a good three hours of GRID.

Yeah the stock HD4850 cooler doesn't seem to bad, obviously works better once the fan speed has been raised!

I'm sure there will be a gazillion different cards out soon featuring all manner of weird and wonderful coolers.

Really though it seems easy enough to remove the stock cooler and add your own, there is quite a gooid choice of heatsinks that fit too.

Aftermarket Cooler For 4850

Arctic Cooling should step in here all it needs is the s1 any revision but with vrm heatsinks not exactly a huge task for them really.

I though the cards ran fine? most people that crank the fan up to just 40% report idle temps of around 50c...sounds fine to me. I've even seen a few people with idle temps of around 45c

Just buy the Asus card if you don't want to fit an aftermarket cooler.

Asus are a good brand and good warranty.

If you want to fit an aftermarket cooler then any that fits a 3870 will fit the card.

It's as simple as that.

No doubt over the coming weeks more cards with different coolers will come out just like they did with the 8800GT.

yes I bet in a few weeks we will see some 4850s with nice aftermarket coolers...hopefully the IceQ3 edition will be out this month.

I can really see those flying off the shelves if they aren't priced too close to the 4870

What after market coolers are people using/recomending on the 4850 or are we waiting for new ones to come out?

I think it's just those ppl out there who want a 4850, upgrade the cooler and overclock the life out of it to get near a 4870 performance as possible.

Aftermarket Cooler For 4850

i pondered this but really, is it worth it?

the 4870 is what, a £70 premium over the HD4850 so i think i will just cut the bull and go straight for the card which has everything in the box.

stock cooling on the 4850 is actually very adequate it's just a little loud once over 45%.

for £11 you can't go wrong with the S1 though.

It's your shout! :)

Me: The little HD4850 is the best GPU I used in my life (and I used a lot!) It's been running since Wednesday (100% stock/unmooded/unflashed) and I have had no problem. The case temps are the same from when the 8800GT was installed so no problem there. This card does not need a 3rd party cooler for normal use.

I am gonna install a 3rd party heatsink on it (to mess with some overclocking) which is not such a hard task as I have already modded maybe ten cards so the fear factor is gone and the end result will be a very cool'n'quiet running *overclocked* HD4850.

If I had more cash spare £££ I would have gone for a HD4870 but not for its cooler but more for the GDDR5 and slightly better build, I would have still modded that card with a 3rd party cooler which adds to the bill.

You could buy the HD4870 for its cooler but what about when they release those cards with better coolers? and then will come the stock HD4800 X2 series followed by the same with better coolers etc etc etc.

Good luck, I'm off to put my bang-for-buck HD4850 with its 800 stream shaders to good use!
