Are there any 8 bit IPS panels at 23" ? (I can't stand 6 bit + RFC the colours are wrong)

I bought an NEC 232WMi recently and was very dissapointed with the colour.

Certainly a step backwards from my aging but still awesome LCD20WGX2

I wish websites would let us know if the panel is 6 bit 8 bit 10 bit etc...

Kinda feel like I wasted £220

in what way are the colours "wrong"? I doubt really it has anything to do with the FRC technique as modern FRC algorithms are very good and you'd be very hard pressed to see any real difference between a 6-bit+FRC IPS and an 8-bit IPS. more likely to be down to things like difference in screen coating, backlightig, brightness, setup, gamma, white point etc.

but no, as far as i know all current 23" IPS panels are 6-bit +FRC

I'm never touching a 6bit panel again, over contrasty and false colours the colours are nearly there, but for whatever I do I cannot get the screen to display the RGB colour space correctly. The best thing I can do is raise the gamma to about 1.2 on my gfx card, but even then certain colours don't look right. Also this feels like a slower panel for motion so I wouldn't reccomend it for gamers either.

Reds and yellows are lacking, yellows sometimes a little green and the oranges dont get hot or deep enough as a result.

The below panel is 10 bit which should be sufficient. I wish I'd done my research..

I dont mind backlight bleed if it means accurate RGB colour space.

Hi Baddass, (in regards my perception of colours on this panel) Perhaps it's WLED backlighting?, which seems to have a colder feel to whole gamut,

My other two screens have a warmer ccfl backlight.

I cannot get it to display yellows or reds accurately, blues feel electronically oversaturated, whilst reds seem to contain a tinge of blue which gives a slightly purple look, yellows arn't yolky yellow like the yolk of an egg and instead look a little washed out and look a little green at times.

Perhaps I need a spectrometer? I'm sure the colours would be fine for most people, but in creative suite and when it comes to work, colour is important.

What about the other LED backlights ? I guess I should have spent nearer £600 for what I needed.

I'm a little confused by what you're using....what screen are you using now, and which one are you talking about having problems with? how is it connected to your graphics card as well?

certainly different screens can look different to one another, and factory setup and accuracy can vary massively. Wide gamut will certainly look different to standard gamut, and W-LED may well look different to CCFL units. there's a lot of variables. A Colorimeter of some sort would allow you to get the most out of any screen and get a comfortable setup, often helping correct gamma and colour temperature discrepancies which you just can't correct through the OSD menu

Sorry forgot to mention, I own an NEC 20WGX2 & the Dell 2007wfp, both of which i have no complaints about the colour, but recently I bought the NEC232WMI which seems to have a much cooler gamut and can't reproduce the same range of colours out of the box.

It does look good :) I was after 16:9 though, might go 21:9 now for my main PC.

Good! It's outstanding, I like the PIP,PBP picture is superb, needed to turned down the brightness, whites were very white.

Still finding my way around it, one thing I spotted after a week, are rulers running along the inside edges of the bottom & left side bezel.

Lovely stand, & the USB3 hub is useful, & OSD has loads of settings to keep you amused for hours.
