Currently on a budget after being offed from work after downsizing, not knowing as much as most of you lot here about components.

At the minute my issue is my motherboard and its the only thing i need to upgrade till i can afford a cpu also.

Currently i have:

and am hoping to stick with intel and maybe get a quad at a later date or something.

Not knowing much about stuff, is there a board that could support this cpu for now, and a quad at a later date? only thing i notice is that the newer chips are 45nm and mine is 90nm so dont know if this makes a difference. Basically the only other thing itd have to do is support 800mhz ddr2 because im running on an asus that only supports up to 400.

Any new boad will support it and newer quads, the nm is the die (inside bit) size not the actual chip, which are both socket 775, one thing you'll have to watch out for though is your gfx card, if its older it may be AGP and most modern boards use PCI-E now, if you have PCI-E no problems but if its an older AGP then you'll have to either search around a bit more for a board with AGP or buy a new gfx card too

Yup graphics isnt a problem its only a week old. XFX HD 4830. Couldve gone for something better and burnt my pockets a lot more but it does the trick as it is :P

So basically any board that states it supports dual/quad 775?

yep, if youve got a 4830 (good card btw) you might want to look at a P45 based board as it would allow you to add another 4830 later in crossfire if you decided to. Either this gigabyte or this asus would do the job nicely, alternatively if you dont wanna spend that much look at P43 but it doesnt support crossfire

At the minute im not interested in crossfiring cards. Eventually, maybe a good few months down the line, I plan on building a completely new system anyway with top parts but for now im quite happy with the one card doing the work :)

So maybe i could just get a newer board that will support this cpu and everything on it for now until im prepared to build anew. Not too interested in overclocking to be honest 2.8ghz cant be that bad i guess, and my bios wont let me adjust anything anyway, think ASUS did a one off job for fujitsu so im stuck with a dormant board for now :P
