Are there any commercially available HT subs that use a horn enclosure?

I already know about horns in PA, and I doubt many people use something like a Funktion 1 F221 in their front room due to cost, size and the fact it's not much use for frequencies below 40Hz.

I was wondering if there are and HT subs that use a horn design? I don't care if they are hugely expensive, I'd just like to know what's on the market.

Yep I'm more than happy with mine, but I'd be interested to see how it compares to commercial designs if there are any.

I've been modeling various horn designs, and worked out that a horn would have to be around the size of a washing machine in terms of volume, so it would have to be rather huge!

This may be why there aren't any available for HT, as I imagine many people would not want a huge box, but I would have thought there would have been a few people who have a no compromise attitude who wouldn't mind a huge box which is why I'm surprised I have yet to find a commercial HT horn sub.

I've heard of a Cerwin Vega horn but I think it's for PA use... A horn isn't free from problems (such as group delay) but it can work surprisingly well when properly integrated and has many benefits.

Presumably the reason for not having horn loaded subs in HT is that they simply aren't required, unless your fronts and surrounds are a line array (and therefore you have a huge house) there's just no point. If you're going to put commercial PA design ideas into subs then surely your journey would take you to bandpass designs before horns.

Some people are running small line array systems at home, I've only seen DIY efforts tho as I don't really keep tabs commercial offerings...

I don't have a huge house, and I can say that even tho my horn enclosure drops off below 30Hz, I definitely prefer the sound of it over a reflex box for both music and HT.

As for bandpass, I think that if you're going to the trouble building a box more complex than a reflex box (either DIY or commercial) then I'd go with horn over bandpass personally.

i know he's built one the point is a 'ht' horn will be so massive i doubt there is one, other than one somebody built
There probably are a few custom bui... it's a case of digging out the circular saw!
