Are there any good racing games on the PC?

As above, I mean realistic racing games with real cars and actual race tracks. i.e. the Xbox had Project Gotham 2 when I had one and that had real cars on tracks like the nurburgring.

Does the PC have anything like that?
:)

I can believe nobody mentioned Richard Burns Rally?!? 'The' best sim on any platform by far.

Get a G25 Wheel & pedals, learn to play RBR with manual gears and you'll find the most rewarding/challenging game of all time - Simple as!

Fair enough its not spangley graphics but its all about the physics. Graphically its very acceptable i'd say.

Sounds more like he's after a GT/Forza/PGR clone with a lot of cars and tracks rather than uber realistic physics. Tbh I really cant think of anything on PC like that. Maybe GRID?

Get playing the mods for GTR2 / rFactor. Loads of cars and tracks :)
I've got probs 60-70 different track variations in my GTR2 install at the moment.

GRID is a waste of time, its less realistic than most flash games.

Grid is quite arcadey, but still great fun as the whole game works well. If you want ultra realistic try any of the simbin titles (GTR, GTR2, Race 07+GTR Evolution) or rFactor.

Gross exaggeration, It's extremely fun IMO. Games don't have to be ultra realistic to be fun.

Grid is rubbish. I felt ripped off after buying that POS. All its got going for it is its 'not bad' graphics. I did not feel like i was racing at all whilst playing it.

If RBR is to much realism, and your looking towards 'track' racers. Then i'd go for GTR2 - You can start GTR2 as a beginner and feel like your actually racing, then as time passes end up removing all helpers and you'll end up with something nearly as rewarding as RBR.

One word of advice though: You'll never truly feel like your actually racing anything unless you get all the auto this & thats switched off. It may be a steep learning curve to master everything on manual, but it really is amazingly worth it, and its ultimately for your own enjoyment. :p

The OP did request realistic though, so in no way should GRID even get a mention :p

I can definitely vouch for GTR2, have spend a huge amount of time in that since everyone stopped playing GT Legends online. With the settings on easy its drivable with a gamepad, I used to even race with someone who drove in manual with a keyboard, he was pretty quick considering, and was very consistant. Rarely made a mistake!
I worked my way up from simple settings to driving with everything off on a gamepad, and have recently had to relearn lots with driving using the G25, so rewarding now I have got the hang of it.
Driving up the Asphalt Pikes Peak in a 320bhp Caterham is amazing :D

But the cost of peripherals thrown at the wall needs to be added to the cost...

I bought the G25 for this game and my is it good/hard

I really need to spend a weekend with the wheel a SimBin game and with proper h shift gears - just so hard to get it right :p

ps3ud0

It took me about a week on and off to get to the point when I could drive pretty well with the wheel and match the pace I could go at with the pad. I don't drive in real life at the moment so the concept of changing gear with a H shifter and using 3 pedals took a while to get used to.
Had my wheel about 2 weeks now and I'd sure I'm going a lot quicker than I was on a pad now, and I'm definitely having a lot more fun :D

Pads are terrible things, everyone i know who moves away from them soon say they would never ever even think of going back to em. Terrible way of controlling anything. Only good for mario etc imho :p
