Are there any rumours about any 8k monitors coming out at some point?

I currently have a 4k monitor, and because I don't game very much, it is perfect for me when programming, but I'd like to upgrade at some point. People have been talking about 8k TVs, so I was wondering if there were any rumours about a possible 8k monitor coming out at some point soon?

There's the Viewsonic VP3286-8K that was announced at CES this year

and that is based on an LG.Display IPS panel that is already in production. It wouldn't surprise me to see perhaps a model from someone like Dell as well in this space, or LG themselves

Thanks for that. Certainly not cheap but I think a decent monitor is essential for programming work so it might well be worth the expense. I'll keep an eye out and see when they are actually released.

Have you considered an ultrawide for programming?

To be honest, not really. If I were using a tiling window manager on Linux, I'd be all over it, but at the moment, I tend to have one window open per monitor, although an ultra-wide could work, I guess. I'd need to change my workflow.

I am considering an UW but as I'm currently using 2 4K monitors, the DPI on any ultrawide will be utter **** compared to the current setup.

I've been thinking about this since you mentioned it, and I asked on Reddit if there was any tiling window management software for KDE, and it appears that there is. So I could get an ultra-wide and get the benefits that I want. As long as it isn't curved, it should be OK.

FancyZones from MS is pretty good for managing windows. I work and game on a 48" 5120x1440 ultrawide. Much prefer it to multiple monitors I had before. Although the DPI isn't as high as the multiple 4k monitors I had....it's a much better display for gaming. Nearly as many pixels as 4k though, so you still need a decent GPU.

Ah, I should have said. I use Linux as my operating system so it would need to be something that works with KDE on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.

Can anyone recommend a decent ultrawide with the highest possible resolution, please? I've never really looked into ultrawide monitors before.
