Are there ddr to ddr 2 adapters?

Just curious really.

I mean i thought maybe some company would make a thing that slots in to the ddr slot and converts it ddr2 slot as in ddr2 slot on top of adapter to slot ddr2 in.

Would be a good quick way and cheap to move to ddr2 for ppl if there was one.

You need a different memory controller so I don't think it will work on most boards.

ASRock have a board that takes DDR1 and DDR2, so the intel memory controller (on the motherboard unlike AMD) might be upto the job, but AMD64 CPUs have their own memory controller intergrated into the CPU which aren't DDR1/DDR2 compatible.

No there aren't. It's just completely unviable, they're not compatible in any way.

There have been socket adaptors for CPUs in the past, but only for processors that were just in different packages - they had to be compatible in other ways.

Link?

EDIT - never mind, found one.

I've never seen one in the wild and it was only for a single Gigabyte board from the looks of it. Reason it worked is because the memory controller was capable of DDR or DDR2. The converter repackaged DDR into DDR2, but it'll have needed to use DDR signalling for things like the clock input. That's what I meant regarding compatability.

All they really did is what Asrock etc have done, except instead of having some of the necessary logic onboard, it'll have been in the converter. After all, DDR uses 2.5V or more and DDR2 starts at 1.8V.

What you won't find is a true converter that works on all motherboards. It's something that only worked on that Gigabyte board and only because of that VIA chipset.
