Are there such things as Vanilla TF2 servers?

Is it possible to set TF2 to 'launch' mode, or turn off all the added rubbish? And if so are there servers that actually do that?

Basically I would love to play TF2 as it was just before the Medic Ubersaw update. Standard weapons only, no hats, no drops, original maps (although some of the later ones are epic too).

Basically I want the TF2 that I sunk hundreds of hours into back!
 
However much I understand the wish to be able to play without certain weapons ruining balance, I really don't see the argument against hats, they don't DO anything.

I'm looking for that game too! You havnt seen it have you?

I really loved TF2, it was the game that turned me from a console gamer into a PC gamer having abandoned the platform with the release of the PS2, but pretty much every update it's had since launch pretty much has had a negative effect, I didn't appreciate all the extra weapons, the hats, the ui redesigns or anything. Sadly nothing even close to vanilla seems to exist or be allowed to exist any more, if someone knows of some populated servers out there with vanilla like settings I'd love to hear about them.
 
Done a bit of research and turns out Vanilla is the wrong term. Vanilla just means stock TF2, which includes all the unlocks. It really means stock round times, spawn times, crit levels, standard maps, etc.

What I'm actually looking for is no unlock servers. Shame is everywhere that seems to have attempted to run a server has shut them down due to nobody using them :(

Looks like I'm going to have to just tollerate the dross :(
 
Dunno why people are moaning, I bought tf2 the day it was out and never expected the amount of content and updates that have come out.
If f2p has allowed them to continue in new maps and game modes then im all for it, no other game has given this and for free!

Think of awful rip off games like cod where they bring a new game out each year for £40 and ruin the community, forcing you to update to their new pile of junk, oh and don't forget the paid for dlc updates with new weapons and maps for £10!

That's not really true, though. CoD1/CoD2 offered 1000+ hours of fun and had an infinite multiplayer replayability, and were far from ripoffs. Is it wrong to want TF2 to be like TFC, of that generation? Like COD1/CoD2? Not all games have to be rubbish like the latest generation. That's a resignatory attitude.

Free updates are nice, but huge, radical sweeping changes to the entire game without giving me the option to play it just like it was before... That is the problem here, and that's what ****es people off. If you don't like MW3, you can still play cod4.

I've no issue with the content, its the way that it has changed the way people play that ruined it for me.

I also have a massive thing about micro transactions, and the fact that when Valve released the medic update they insisted they would never move to a microtransactions model.

I enjoyed the game with out a thick, sticky layer of gimmicks spread over the top and was just wandering if such a thing existed, it would appear it does not.

The way the game felt and played at launch is now radically different thanks to the vast number of new weapons, and I don't really think a lot of the new maps, the recent coop mode is another great example of content that simply wasnt needed.

It was an interview with Gabe (or maybe someone else seinor) when they first anounced the first Medic update. They asked if players would be able to buy the new weapons rather than have to unlock them and they said there was no plans to ever move to a microtransaction model and that they were fully committed to continued free updates.

I'll see if I can find it, but it its going back a number of years...
