Are these components compatible with each other?

Hello,

I'm going to be buying and building my first gaming PC in the summer (by which time I should have the money to do it) and I've chosen the components that I would like to buy.

I've checked the specifications of all of the components myself and I believe they are compatible with each other, but I would like an experienced PC builder to double check the components just to make sure.

Also, can I get people's general opinions on the components that I've chosen please? I just want to know if I've made good choices with the components.

These are the components that I've chosen:

MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC Gaming Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

Asus Z87-PLUS Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Corsair RM Series RM 550 '80+ Gold' 550W Power Supply (CP-9020053-UK)

Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case - Black Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case - Black

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD

Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24F1ST SATA ReWriter - Black (Retail)

Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler

Cooler Master 120mm Jetflo FAN 1600RPM

Cooler Master 200mm MEGA Flow FAN - Red

Thanks!

You could add an ssd if funds permit. Also, bear in mind prices and offers will change between now and the summer.

Hello,

Thanks for responding so quickly. Ok, thank you for confirming the compatibility of my components. My budget is about £800. I've also just noticed that I forgot to choose the RAM haha!

Hello,

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Thanks for recommending those components to me.

So do you think the extra fans from my specification won't be necessary from keeping the system from getting too hot?

I've been told that more cores in a CPU isn't always better or is that incorrect?

Depends on the game/application.

If a game is older and programmed for dual core chips then outright speed matters.

Modern titles like BF4 show good gains with the eight core FX chips vs quad core haswell.

I'd still go for an Intel build (personal preference though) at £800, it's within budget and in most games you won't see much of a difference except games starting to use 6-8 threads/cores, however in single thread applications the Intel CPU's just storm ahead. Your choice though :)

Ok thanks for the advice.

Better value for money with AMD, (SSD including in the spec for well under £800).

Definitely better price/performance ratio with AMD (especially the 8320), great CPU's but for £800 I'd still stick with Intel (totally personal though!)

Ok thanks guys for your advice, it's very much appreciated.

I think I'm going to take stulid's advice and go with the AMD build that you recommended to me earlier on in the thread.

I've just got one question though, would this system need a couple of extra fans to keep it from overheating or would the system be ok without them? I'm just a little worried about it getting too hot that's all haha!
