Souldnt the cable be faster and a lower ping.
 
Wireless doesn't add much to ping transmission speeds. It's more about the occasional issue sending packets that make a wired connection prefferable for such things as gaming.

Wireless can also cope with 7 Mbit provided you don't move too far away from the router.

Yes, cable could be pinging 1ms and wireless 10ms to your router, but if you are testing pings to the internet then it'll record the slowest part of the entire link which will be slower than either ping to your router.
