I always buy official microsoft products but Microsoft dont do them Im tempted on buying a cooler for it are they any good?

Just a lot of noise. I put one on my overheating (now dead 360) and it didnt seem to make any difference to the lock ups or anything

I would stay away from them personally, as long as your 360 isn't sitting on a carpet or stuck in a small space with no ventilation then there should be no problem. The fact that Microsoft don't show any interest in making on themselves shows how necessary they are.

Don't use coolers that run from the 360's power. Insted get one that runs from a seperate AC.

That being said cooling isn't always neccessary. Some 360's have a tendency to heat up past oven level. Some stay cool for hours. plus there are already two coolers at the back.

Make sure your 360's is well ventalated and not sitting on the carpet. Keep the power brick far away and sitting somewhere cool too.

I've had one of the Nyko Inter-coolers since christmas and think it is far far far too noisy. But it definately does reduce temperatures inside the console significantly. When I took it off (I temporarily got sick of the noise) I noticed that the DVDs were a lot hotter than they were when I had the Intercooler connected. I wasn't aware of these claims that it draws power away from the Xbox360 and that it potentially could harm it. But I have thought about selling the Intercooler recently though as it's far too noisy like I say.

The Nyko cooler made my 360 display a one red light upon boot. Taken it off and never had a problem since (7 months).

Got the Nyko here. My no warranty import 360 did the 3 red lights ages ago but I fixed it with the heatgun thing. The GPU heatsink gets extremely hot normally and the intercooler does bring the temps down. It makes no difference the crashing though. The 360 shuts down if the CPU or GPU temp gets too high like most PCs. Unfortunately I tested this out myself when the GPU heatsink wasn't seated properly.

My 360s been up and running fine for months now.

Most PCs since the athlon xp days do shut down when they overheat.

I don't see the point in these products. My 360 was on for hours at a time since last May and has never had any red lights. If there had been serious cooling problems, enough to warrant these third party fans, MS would have recalled the 360s and fixed them themselves.

To be fair, microsoft would be admiting that their product is inferior if they did. ;) Altough I would stay far away from them!
