Are these line stats good or bad?

I've recently got 24Mb adsl2+ over here in Oz but I never seem to be able to download faster than about 8Mb :(

I'd imagine it's one of three things:

1. My line stats prohibit faster transmission.

2. My wireless router lies when it says it can transmit speeds up to 54Mbps.

3. The connection between me and giganews has a bottleneck. (I doubt this as I've tried a few download speed tests and they're all coming back at about 8meg)

Any ideas people?

My current sync rate says 17Mps

That's what's confusing me. Surely if my sync rate is that then my dl speeds should be around that?

It isn't lying, you are misinterpreting what it's reporting though. It can transmit speeds up to 54Mbps (probably about 20Mbps of useful throughput though), it's just only between your machine and the router, not the internet.

I realise this I was just wondering if wireless lan speeds were a lot lower than they qoute and thus causing a bottleneck. So with excellent signal strength I should be getting around 20Mbs, damn so it's not that causing it.

Ah well... 8Mbs is a lot better than the 256k I was on before :)
